PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
While the number of school days is
quickly coming to an end for this school
year, these last two months will be
extremely busy at EDPS. Our
Kindergarten Mother’s Day Tea, class
trips, Grade 8 graduation, the School
Council Fun Fair, track and field and
Grade 3 and 6 EQAO are some of the
upcoming events! All grade 3 and 6
students will be taking part in the annual
EQAO assessment of language and
mathematics. This will take place
between May 25 and June 5th. During
this time we will be doing our best to
avoid any interruptions during class time
so that our students can focus and do
their best on their tests. We ask that
parents of Grade 3 and 6 students avoid
making any appointments during this
time and that students are well rested
and have had a healthy breakfast before
coming to school. Snacks will be
available to students on the mornings
that they are writing EQAO. Please
check with your child’s teacher if you
have any questions in regards to specific
times and dates that your child will be
writing EQAO. Thank you very much for
your support!
Don’t forget to check out our school’s
web site at www.egn.rcdsb.on.ca for up
to date information about what is going
on at EDPS. Happy Spring!
Thank you.

EDPS SPRING CONCERT
Our Spring Concert will be held May 12th at 12:15
p.m. The following classes will be performing: 2,
3, 4/5, 5/6, 6, 8, and several 6/7 ensembles.
Victoria Day was first celebrated as the birthday of Queen Victoria
of United Kingdom. She was born on May 24, 1819. Queen Victoria
ruled from 1837 to 1901. When she became queen she was only
18 years old.
It was during Queen Victoria's reign that Canada began to celebrate the monarch's birthday. The 24th of May became an official
holiday in 1845. In 1952 the day was moved to the Monday preceding May 25th.
It is said that Queen Victoria started the trend of women getting
married in white wedding dresses.
The birthday of King Edward was celebrated on Victoria Day even
though he was born on November 9.
Canada is the only country that celebrates this day.
DRESSING FOR THE WEATHER
The weather this time of year can be very unpredictable! Please remind
your child to dress appropriately for our spring weather conditions.
Dressing in layers, wearing rubber boots, and having mitts and a hat will
help your child stay warm and dry. It would also be much appreciated if you
could send your child with an extra set of dry clothing, including socks, so
that they have something dry to change into should they need it. Thank
you!
O.P.P. VULNERABLE SECTOR CHECKS
Pursuant to Board Policy and in light of changes to the Criminal Reference Act, all parent volunteers
are required to complete an application for a vulnerable sector check. This application process is
free, so please come into the school to complete the form. You are asked to provide two specified pieces of
identification for the process, one being a picture identification. With end of year class trips quickly approaching,
you are encouraged to do this as soon as possible, as it can take anywhere from 2-3 weeks for the paperwork to
be processed.
