Principal’s Message
News from Serving Others Committee
The start of the Term Two seems to have come so quickly.
Welcome back to all our families and welcome to any new
parents who have just joined our school community. We
hope you will have a wonderful experience here at TEMIS
and in Papua New Guinea.
At the end of Term 1, the Serving Others Committee
organised a Pizza Party and a Mufti-Day. All of the funds
raised will go directly to buy equipment for the dogs
housed at the RSPCA, Port Moresby. The amount raised
was PGK1,367.25 and we thank all those people who
contributed. I would especially like to thank Mrs Boio
Davana and Ms Sylvia Kotapu for their efforts with the
organisation of the Pizza Party. Their help at this busy time
of year was very much appreciated.
Term Two is a very busy term for the school. First of all we
will have the school review in Week Three of this term. Our
staff have worked very hard to prepare for the review,
collecting evidence of all the rubrics that are part of it.
Parents will have an opportunity to meet the team and share
their experiences with them during the week. Please contact
the school office if you are interested in being part of this
and we will contact you when they will be speaking to
parents. There will be five members on the school review
team these are Mr Walter Benny - Principal in Rabaul;
Ms Suzanne Savage - Director of Education at the IEA;
Mr Greg Whiddon - previous director of Education at the IEA;
Mr Paul Richardson - Principal in Lae; and Mr Cameron
Lievore - Principal of a school in Richmond, NSW. We are
looking forward to their input and recommendations.
Mrs Jane Moore will be absent for a few weeks whilst her
work permit issues are being resolved. During this time we
have had to join the two Grade Eight classes for English and
SOSE to limit the impact on the students’ learning. They will
be taught by staff members who are currently working with
them in Grade 8. We hope this issue will be solved quickly,
but have limited control over the visa process that needs to
be followed. If there is a significant delay in Mrs Moore’s
return this may affect the school production that we have
planned for Term Two.
Mrs Williamson will also continue her treatment in Australia,
hopefully returning before the end of Term 2. She has been
suffering from a significant medical condition that has left
her completely run-down but has commenced treatment that
will hopefully allow her a full recovery. Miss Rose Ronald will
continue in Prep until her return.
I would also like to remind parents that the new school
uniform needs to be worn by all students as of the
commencement of Term 2. Any student not wearing the
correct uniform will unfortunately be taken out of class and
parents will be contacted to pick up them up. When you as
parents signed up for a re-enrolment you agreed that your
child would wear the correct uniform in good condition. We
expect parents to respect and co-operate with the school
rules.

Our work with City Mission’s Haus Ruth is ongoing as we
work towards building a sustainable link with the
organisation. In Term 2, the students in the Committee will
visit the Haus Ruth and distribute the many wonderful toys
and books that have been donated by the TEMIS
Community. In Term 1, a selection of new books were
bought from Scholastic to present to the children at City
Mission. Each book has been labelled (see below). On our
visit, we will read the new books to the children. They will
also complete the renovation of the indoor area with
beanbags, mats, comfy cushions, book shelves and a box
of games/jigsaws.
The outdoor mural was completed at the end of last year
by our School Artist, Mr John Eric. Unfortunately, John has
left TEMIS so an indoor mural will have to wait until his
return.
As always, the students in the Committee are very
dedicated and have many wonderful ideas. As well as
initiating links with new organisations, we will also look to
maintaining our current partnerships with POM General
and Digicel Foundation. As we move through 2015, please
support us in whatever way you can. We will continue with
our Collection Bins (situated near the Finance Office), and
of course, support the Marge Yukil Annual Blood Drive.
Please watch this space for more wonderful initiatives and
fundraising ideas.

Parent Group News
Welcome back to TEMIS for Term 2 and a
whole lot of new activities for students
and parents. I hope the school holiday
was enjoyable for all with the Easter
bunny finding everyone wherever they
were.
The first Parent Group Meeting for the
term will be next Thursday, 23 April, at
1.10pm in the Staffroom at the Murray
site. Please come along to contribute to
your Parent Group, meet other parents,
and hear about what's going at TEMIS.

News from the Uniform Shop

The TEMIS Uniform shop is now open
every Friday during the school term
from 8.00am -4pm.
 The shop has a full range of uniforms
and stock on hand for purchase. Please
note payment can be made with EFTPOS,
Credit Card or Cheque—no cash is
accepted.
Our friendly staff are on hand to assist
with any enquiries and can be contacted
any day of the week on 7121 4845 or by
email on [email protected]. Our
refund policy is we are happy to exchange
or credit on items purchased within 14
days. Goods must be undamaged and in
original packaging. We do not refund
money on purchases under any
circumstances. We hope that all product
is performing as it should, however
should you find any issues or faults
please bring the product back to the store
for assessment and we can either replace
or credit as appropriate at any time.
All refill stock has now arrived in the
store! Items that have arrived include
refills on PE gear, swimming stock, shoes,
hoodies, bags, towels and much more. If
customers have placed orders, they will
be contacted shortly by our staff to collect
their pre-ordered items.
Please note the uniform shop will be
moving from its current location to a new
place on the school grounds in the near
future - we will keep you posted on when
this move will happen and directions to
the new store!
