Friday, January 9, 2015 NEW ANNOUNCEMENTS Attention Photography Club Members: Your meeting for January 12th has been changed to Monday January 26th. Be sure to attend Monday, January 26 from 2:20-3:00 PM in the Band Room to meet a professional photographer and learn a little about the profession. Be sure to bring a copy of your favorite photograph or a clipping of a picture you like from a magazine, as it will be part of the presentation. Hope to see you there! Attention All Seniors: Any senior who has applied to Ohio State may want to stop in the guidance office for a scholarship application for the Three Rivers Buckeye Scholarship. The application deadline is February 6th. Attention all students: Show Choir auditions for the 2015-2016 school year will be held over the next two weeks. Anyone who is interested in being in show choir should see Mrs. Elek for audition information and to sign up for the vocal part of the audition. Dance auditions will be held on Wednesday, January 21 at 3:30 pm and vocal auditions are by appointment. Attention Fiddler on the Roof Cast and Crew: If you were not able to attend the January 8th meeting, you need to pick up a packet of forms from Mrs. Elek in the Choral Room. T-shirt order forms and payment are due on Thursday, January 15th. Attention All Students: We need students to join the cast of the Fiddler on the Roof! We especially need boys to play the Russian soldiers in the production. Please see Mrs. Elek for the information packet and plan to attend the next rehearsal on Thursday after school, January 22nd. Attention All Students: Martin Luther King Day is quickly approaching. There is an opportunity to volunteer and make this a “day-on” instead of a “day-off”. Please see Mrs. Martin in the guidance office if you are interested in participating. There are only ten spots available so don’t delay!!! MLK Day is Monday, January 19th Attention All Students: There are currently three South Fayette scholarships available: The Dr. Mary Ravita Scholarship, the Beatrice Minkler Scholarship, and the Pink Out Scholarship. All three scholarships have a February deadline. Please stop in the guidance office if you are interested in applying for any or all of these scholarships. Attention All Students: The “Winter Masquerade” dance has been cancelled that was scheduled for Sat., Jan. 17th from 7:00-10:30 PM. Ad space is limited. 1 Attention All Juniors: Applications for the PA Governor’s School for Engineering & Technology have a postmark deadline of Jan. 16th. This summer program is open to current high school juniors. The selection process is highly competitive and the program is fully funded. Please see Mrs. Quirk for more information. Attention All Sophomores and Juniors: Applications for the PA School for Global Entrepreneurship and the Univ. of Pittsburgh Health Careers Scholars Academy are due Feb. 16th. Attention All Students: Students that are interested in participating in the Duquesne Model UNV conference on Fri., Jan. 30th should see Mrs. Quirk. Attention All Seniors: Interested in serving as a teacher’s assistant? The Future Educators’ Association is sponsoring this year’s “TA for a Day”, which will be held on Fri., Feb. 13th. All those interested can sign up for the program in their English classes. Then a South Fayette teacher will hire you to assist him or her in their classes throughout the day. This is a district-wide program, meaning a teacher from the elementary, intermediate, middle and high school can hire you to assist them. Look for the forms in your English class to sign up. All forms are due to your English teacher no later than Fri., Jan. 16th. Please see Mr. Smith or Mr. Bal with any questions. Attention All Students – Volunteer Opportunity: A volunteer is needed 1-2 times/week for 30-45 minutes as a computer skills instructor at Broadmore Assisted Living for a resident who is interested in learning some basic computer skills (email, web search, etc). The facility has computers with internet access available for residents. Anyone interested, please contact the guidance office or Mr. Garlick for further information. Attention All Students: Did you take the practice SAT or ACT test at South Fayette? If you have not yet received your scores, please see Mr. Flannery to get your score report. Attention All Students: If you are interested in signing up for the Mini-THON in April, please go to Mr. Flannery’s room to get your signup forms. All money raised from the event will go to support the Four Diamonds Fund to fight childhood cancer. Last year we had thirty teams and over 250 students participate and raised over $21,000, and we hope to see you at this year’s event! A reminder to all team captains that you should be getting your team members signed up on Donor Drive as soon as possible. Attention All Students: Are you interested in playing baseball this year?
