Dear Parents,
A few weeks ago Mr. Ruffing and I talked with the
senior class to give them a list of important dates as
the end of the year approaches. April 28—the
Alumni Association welcomes the Class of 2015.
May 1st-- during Mass at Elderfest there is a short
ceremony where the seniors pass the responsibility
to the juniors to lead and care for our school. May
3 – the seniors and their dads are invited to a special
Mass, brunch and cornhole tournament at Elder.
May 22—seniors and staff golf outing at Aston
Oaks. May 25—Baccalaureate Mass. May 26—
Graduation Exercises. And all of the sports, band
and glee club banquets/ceremonies as well. It is a
very busy and fun-filled four week sprint to
graduation.
We also encouraged them to enjoy the time they
have with one another. For four years they’ve been
classmates, teammates, each other’s cheering
sections and friends. They have attended dances
and events together, raised money for worthy
causes, participated in community service and
grown in so many ways. Their lives are
intertwined. Those friendships, with classmates
and faculty, often are life-long. Wear purple!
Especially on Fridays.
And to the underclassmen, I encourage you to wear
your Elder gear this summer particularly when you
are on vacation, no matter how remote a place you
may be visiting. It is amazing those who will
notice and shout “Go Panthers!” or strike up a
conversation with you. There are over 22,000 Elder
grads and it sometimes seems that Elder is their
favorite conversation starter.

FLEXIBLE TUITION
The 2015/2016 Flexible Tuition Payment Plan
should have been returned to Elder’s office by April
30. If you have not sent it in, we would appreciate

LIBRARY NEWS
The Elder library had a special “Library
Recognition Day” celebration during National
Library Week (4/12-418). As part of this
celebration, Mr. Bengel’s homeroom 3D won the
Doughnuts for your Homeroom contest, thanks to
an entry by Adam Helmers!
The Teen Read Contest (TRC) for this year
concluded with the raffle drawing during National
Library Week. First, we want to give a special
shout out to Max Merritt who designed our cool
poster implementing this year’s theme of “Read –
Adventure Awaits – Explore – Dream - Discover” –
you did a great job, thanks Max!!
Congratulations to all who entered the TRC for you
are all winners—gaining knowledge and enjoyment
from reading for fun! The raffle drawing prize

SUMMER SCHOOL
Repeat Courses
Students who fail a required course will need to
repeat the course this summer. Repeat courses this
summer will begin on Monday, June 15th at Elder
and most courses continue through Friday, July
17th. This month often determines whether a student
goes to summer school or not – study now and
avoid failing! Please register as soon as possible if
there is a need to take a course.
First-Time Credit Courses
Four courses – American Government, Electrical
Engineering, Health (on-line), & Physical
Education – will be offered this summer. These
courses cost $290 each. Please register as soon as
possible if interested in taking any of these courses.

ATTENTION JUNIORS
ACT/SAT—Important testing dates are coming up
for college bound juniors. Students are encouraged
to take both the SAT and the ACT tests.

ACADEMY & ROTC
SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMS
Juniors interested in pursuing appointments to one
of the military academies need to receive a
congressional nomination. View your local
congressional representative’s web site for more
information.
ROTC scholarship applications should be made
available during the summer. It is recommended
that your application be completed early so that
your packet can be reviewed during the first review
board (typically in October.) In addition to the
scholarship application, students need to complete a
physical fitness test and conduct an interview with a
Professor of Military Science. Professors of
Military Science are located on the campus of
schools offering ROTC. For your convenience the
interview can be conducted at any school offering
ROTC.
COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIPS
There are still a number of college scholarship
opportunities for the Class of 2015. Please check
the SCHOLARSHIP section in Naviance for
scholarships for which you may be eligible. Be
sure to check application deadlines and
requirements. See Mrs. Lind or your counselor for
more information.

THANKS TO THE BLOOD DRIVE DONORS
& VOLUNTEERS
Thanks to all of our volunteers and those who
donated blood during the Elder/Hoxworth spring
blood drive held Tuesday, March 17, 2015. There
were 46 students, staff and faculty members
who registered to donate blood and 45 lifesaving
blood products were collected.
Thanks to the student volunteers who did a fantastic
job: Mitch Moorhead, Andrew Finn, Luke Jett,
Evan Kandra, and Spencer Kandra as well as parent
volunteer, Mrs. Krista Moore.
The next Hoxworth blood drives scheduled for the
2015-2016 school year are Wednesday, October 28,
2015 and Tuesday, March 15, 2016.
Please consider being a blood donor in the future.
For every one unit of blood, up to three lives may
be saved. You never know, you may someday be
the recipient of the generosity of a blood donor.

ELDERAMA 2015 NEWS
The 30t Elderama auction will be held on Saturday,
October 10. Back by popular demand at the
conclusion of the Oral Auction we will have live
entertainment featuring The Tommy and Hub Band.
Our honorary chair couple will be Bonnie and Tom
Otten. This will be a celebration of Tom’s last
auction before he retires in June 2016. Mark your
calendar now for this fun filled evening. If you are
interested in participating in any way, we would be
most grateful for your assistance. We need help
with decorations, set-up, clean-up, or hosting a gift
gathering party.

15th ANNUAL STEEL DRUM FESTIVAL
Saturday, May 9 at 7:00 pm in the Elder High
School Fieldhouse. FREE Admission Participants
include: Elder, Clark Montessori and Madison High
Schools. Will include a Mass Band performance,
including all partipants!!!
HOCKEY
Open invitation to any students that want to try ice
hockey. We have a week long camp in June (22nd 25th) that 9th graders can attend; then we have 10
days in July for all grades. Students can try this and
see if they are interested. No experience necessary.

PANTHER PATH
Elder initiated the Panther Path engraved brick
program back in 1994. Since then, nearly 1,000
grads, families and friends have purchased bricks
for themselves or for loved ones on special
occasions – graduation, Father’s Day, birthday, or
for any other special remembrances! Bricks are
installed each summer in the area behind the north
endzone in the football stadium, and the Path itself
was designed to replicate Elder’s school
building. The cost is $100 per brick and represents
a donation to the school. Each brick contains three
lines of 12 characters per line. Deadline for
ordering bricks this year is July 1st. Call the
Alumni Office for more information at (513) 9213744.
Alumni Family Picnic – August 14
Mark your calendars now for this always fun time
with family and friends! More info will be posted
to the school’s website later this summer.
THE ANNUAL ELDER ART SHOW
This year’s Elder Art Show will be held on Friday,
May 15th from 6-9. Students will be exhibiting
over 500 works of art from all different medias and
levels of art. A collection of Senior portfolios will
be on display as well. The Elder Art Show, as
always, is family friendly. The famous rolling
sculptures will get going around 7:00. We hope
that you will be able to come and experience the
fine art of Elder!
ALUMNI NEWS
EBA Golf Outing – May 15
This annual scholarship fundraising event is in its
15th year and will be played at Grand Oak! Cost is
$75/person or $300/foursome. Men and women

Faculty & Seniors Golf Outing – May 22
Three seniors. One faculty member. Loads of
fun! Our to-be newest alumni should start forming
