AN ISD 728 COMMUNITY EDUCATION PROGRAM
Welcome to EdVenture Club-Summer!
EdVenture Club-Summer is an exciting and engaging summer camp program
for students who have completed Kindergarten through fifth grade by June
2015. EdVenture Club-Summer, in its 23rd year, provides weekly mini-camps
five days a week throughout the summer months and is conveniently located at
Hassan, Otsego, Parker, Rogers, Twin Lakes and Westwood Elementary Schools.
EdVenture Club-Summer features both full-time and part-time options. Full-time
allows your child to attend our program five days a week from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Part-time allows you to plan your child’s care around your schedule. Youth will
experience fun projects, hands-on learning, a weekly field trip and recreational
activities while strengthening relationships in a structured, caring environment.
Who can attend EdVenture Club-Summer?
Students in public or private schools, in-district or out-of-district...everyone is welcome!
Children must have completed grades K, 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 by June 2015.
Why EdVenture Club-Summer and not daycare?
The benefits of EdVenture Club-Summer include taking advantage of weekly field trips to exciting places, sharing time with friends of the same
age, new learning experiences, recreation activities and use of school facilities. EdVenture Club-Summer also qualifies as a tax deduction.
Why attend EdVenture Club-Summer full-time, 5 days a week?
EdVenture Club-Summer is an amazing experience for kids. Each week features a different mini-camp and a field trip that is included in the
full-time price. Children benefit from five days a week because they experience a fuller curriculum with hands-on experiences. They also have
opportunities for connecting with friends, choice time and endless opportunities with our “activity boxes.” As a bonus, when you sign up for a full
week (more than six hours/day) the average daily rate is less than the part-time daily (less than six hours/day) rate.
What is the benefit of using EdVenture Club-Summer part-time?
Using EdVenture Club-Summer part-time is a flexible option to meet a family’s needs and is built to fit around your schedule. You can choose
1-5 days per week and choose six hours or less per day for $23/day, or more than six hours a day for $34/day; fees include the weekly field trip
if attending on the day of the field trip. Is your student attending summer Targeted Services or Special Ed-ESY? Our part-time EdVenture ClubSummer option conveniently wraps around their schedule.
Tell me about your staff...
All of our staff are ISD 728 School District employees who have gone through a comprehensive background check. In addition,
they are CPR and First-Aid trained and have received numerous hours of training on child development, social skills, specialneeds and more. Check out our website at www.728communityed.com/extended day for bios and photos of our site leaders.
Our staff are also selected because they truly enjoy working with children. Our staff are welcoming, caring individuals who encourage
connections with other children as well as other staff.
What if my child has special needs?
Please indicate on the Family Information Form or online student profile any special needs of your child such as health or medical concerns,
allergies, medications, etc., and if your child has an IEP or receives special services during school. (NOTE: As a District 728 program, our
Community Education/EdVenture Club-Summer staff may share any necessary information with other District 728 staff that will assist staff in
providing the best experience for your child.)
What will my child do at EdVenture Club-Summer?
Each week features exciting new themes for students ranging from cooking, acting, music and more with students participating in academic and
recreation activities on a daily basis. Free time is also available each day. Classes are divided by grade level at a 1:15 staff-to-student ratio.
Are field trips included with EdVenture Club-Summer?
EdVenture Club-Summer provides weekly field trips throughout the summer. All
students are automatically enrolled in weekly field trips if they are scheduled to
attend EdVenture Club-Summer on the day of the field trip. Families not wanting
to participate in a field trip can register their student to attend another site not
going on a field trip for that day. Targeted Services and Special Ed-ESY
students will not attend field trips as trip times conflict with class times.
What are some examples of field trips you take?
• Old Log Theater
• Bunker Beach
• MN Lynx
• St. Louis Park Aquatic Center
• Minnesota Zoo
• Summerland
For a full list of field trip destinations, dates and locations, visit our

EdVenture Club-Summer Swim Lessons 2015
Another benefit to attending EdVenture Club-Summer is for your child to attend
American Red Cross swim lessons at no additional cost. We specifically set aside
openings for our EdVenture Club-Summer youth to attend lessons for those in Level
I-VI. Swimming lessons location is to be determined due to pool maintenance
scheduled at VandenBerge MS pool. Transportation by school bus will be provided
if necessary.
If you are interested in having your child attend lessons, please fill out the enclosed
registration form. Check the level carefully as space is limited; if your child is signed
up for the wrong level, he/she may not be able to participate. If space permits, the
child may be switched to another class; however, lessons are usually full.
SWIM LESSON LEVELS
Level I: Intro to Water Skills
Level IV: Stroke Improvement
Level I helps students feel comfortable in the water and enjoy the
water safely. Students learn elementary aquatic skills and develop
good attitudes and safe practices around the water.
Level IV helps students improve their skills and increase their
endurance by swimming familiar strokes (front and back crawl) for
greater distances. Students continue to build the butterfly stroke and be
introduced to the breaststroke, elementary backstroke, elements of the
sidestroke and basic turns. Student must have passed Level III.
Level II: Fundamental Aquatic Skills
This level marks the beginning of true locomotion skills. Students
explore simultaneous and alternating arm and leg motions on the
front and back to lay the foundation for future strokes. This level adds
to skills begun in Level I. Student must have passed Level I.
Level III: Stroke Development
Level III builds on the skills of Level II with guided practice. Students
will learn to coordinate the front and back crawl, elements of the
butterfly, treading water and rules for head-first entries. Student must
have passed Level II.
