Shake it up with Cardio Dance Cardio Dance is a new class that combines choreographed dance "There's a place for you at The W" and muscle-toning moves for a fun, high-energy, calorie-burning workout. Time will fly as your body moves to the hip-hop and Hours rock music pumping from the speakers. Don't worry — dance experience isn't necessary. The first class begins Monday, Nov. 3, The W Hours: 5:30 a.m.-9 p.m. 6:40-7:30 a.m. The group will meet Mondays, Wednesdays, and Mon.-Thurs. Fri. 5:30 a.m.-7:30 p.m. Fridays through Nov. 28. Cost is $24 for members and $36 for Sat. 7 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Sun. 11 a.m.-8 p.m. (11 a.m. guests. Fitness Area only) Be a better babysitter Participants will learn to perform basic child care skills, how to handle bedtime and discipline issues, and how to care for common injuries and emergencies. The next class for kids 11 and older is Saturday, Oct. 25, 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Additional information is available online. Swim season gearing up The winter swim season is getting underway at The W. Swim Club practice will occupy the first two pool lanes Mondays and Wednesdays, 3:45-6:45 p.m., through Dec. 13. One lane will remain open for lap swimmers. An additional lane may be added, as needed. The north end of the pool, including the zero-depth entrance, hot tub, and slide, will be closed Tuesdays and Thursdays, 5-7 p.m., Oct. 28-Nov. 20. The 4- to 6-foot area will be closed 6:30-7 p.m. on lesson days. The vortex will remain open to exercisers, but no balls will be allowed during this time. The program also includes a preweek for fitness testing, body fat and full body measurements, and form preparation. The next session runs Nov. 3-Dec. 23, with classes Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays at 5:15 a.m., 6:15 a.m, and 6:15 p.m. Cost is $110 for an individual registration, $80 per person when two register together, and, new this session, $72 per person when three of more register together. Fun Zone at The W begins Oct. 29 The W will pull out bicycles, scooters, a bounce house, hula hoops, and lots more when Fun Zone opens Wednesday, Oct. 29, 9-11 a.m., in the field house. The fun continues every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday through March 27 for kids 6 and under. Fun Zone is free for members and $1 for guests. Parent supervision is required. Give our Men's Basketball League a shot Regular-season play begins Wednesday, Oct. 29, and will be followed by a seeded tournament. This league fills up fast, so register before the Friday, Oct. 24 deadline to guarantee your spot. The cost is $120 per team. Still time to register for the Zombie Run The second annual Wartburg Zombie 5K Run will take you through a zombie-infested forest Saturday, Nov. 1, 8 p.m., at the Boy Scouts' Camp Ingawanis. Runners will wear lifebelts as they dodge dozens of the undead and overcome manmade obstacles while being pushed to a personal best. Cost is $25 per runner. Registration is available online.
