OPPORTUNITY TO SUPPORT ART AND LOCAL BUSINESS IN CENTRAL WASHINGTON
To Whom It May Concern,
We are sending you the enclosed Ellensburg Film Festival sponsorship information because we believe you
are someone who cares about promoting the arts in central Washington.
Who We Are
The Ellensburg Film Festival is now in its fifth year and grows more popular each year. The board is made up
of local residents with a wide variety of backgrounds, but one common goal: to bring excellent and innovative
films, events, and opportunities to Ellensburg.
The Films
The Ellensburg Film Festival includes films on the festival circuit but not yet available on the big screen, as
well as films made by local artists. Many of the films go on to win awards; two films screened at our 2008
festival were nominated for Academy Awards, with the astounding Man on Wire taking home the Oscar
for Best Documentary Feature. Whenever possible, the board brings directors, actors and producers to
Ellensburg to give talks after the screening of their films. Festival attendees frequently have the opportunity to
meet and mingle with those who were part of the movie-making magic.
2009 Film Festival
This year’s film festival will be October 2-4. As usual, full-length features, documentaries, short and animated
films will be included in the program. With an annual attendance of more than 2,000, the film festival reaches
a broad and diverse audience.
Continuing Community Involvement
The board is working diligently to bring a free film to Ellensburg every month. After the film, the board hosts a
fundraiser with dancing, beverages, and food. This is a new addition to the festival and just one of the many
ways the festival is expanding and advertising.
How You Can Help
With your support, the Ellensburg Film Festival can continue to grow. Please read over this packet at your
convenience and find out how you can help. The packet includes information on sponsorship levels and area
activities, as well as the film festival’s history and dedicated board.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME AND CONSIDERATION!

Background
About EFF:
Since its inception in 2004, the Ellensburg Film Festival has grown into a major film and arts event in the
Northwest with over 2,000 people in attendance. The three-day festival is noted for its outstanding selection
of critically acclaimed films, numerous screenings and venues, diverse cultural and artistic offerings, and a
fun and relaxed atmosphere open to all.
Each year, the EFF films go on to win the most prestigious awards in the industry. Man on Wire, which
screened at last year’s festival, won the Oscar for Best Documentary Feature. Our 2007/2008 titles were
featured at over 200 festivals worldwide, including the Cannes, Sundance, Toronto, Berlin, and New York
festivals. We were particularly honored when chosen to host the North American premiere of the 2007
Cannes winner in front of the sold-out EFF audience!
The 2009 EFF:
The plans are already in place for the fifth annual Ellensburg Film Festival, Oct. 2-4, 2009. We plan to screen
over 30 internationally acclaimed films and, once again, host the Friday night opening gala, Saturday night
celebration, and Sunday Wrap Party.
Our Mission:
The Ellensburg Film Festival is committed to the education, expose, and enrichment of our local community.
We offer a wide spectrum of local and global cultural, artistic, and innovative diversity through educational
programs, forums, and entertaining visual experiences. By offering attendees quality films, both local and
global, we can expand their knowledge of cinema and enhance their appreciation of the filmmaking process.
For film professionals and the interested public it provides the opportunity to gain industry knowledge
through interaction within a festival environment. In addition, the Ellensburg Film Festival provides a platform
for students, colleagues, and members of the community to: exhibit their work, facilitates networking
opportunities, advances local economic activity, and promotes a high standard of excellence.
Our Partners:
The Festival is made possible each year by a broad coalition of public and private funds. EFF brings together
the business community, municipal government, the arts and education community, and private donors.
Some of our partners include the City of Ellensburg, Humanities Washington, Charter Communications,
Daily Record, CWU Diversity Education Center, Gallery One, PBS, and Laughing Horse Arts Foundation. We
would love to have you join our family and lead the festival to our future success.
About Ellensburg:
Located in the heart of the stunning Kittitas Valley and in the center of Washington State, historic Ellensburg
is home to year-round recreational activities, numerous festivals, excellent shopping, superb dining and a
variety of performing and visual arts events around town and at Central Washington University. Ellensburg
was once a trading post called Robbers Roost. Now the town’s 20,000 citizens embrace both Ellensburg’s
Western roots and infuse the town with a passion for the arts. Visitors can stop by one of the town’s fine
art galleries, watch a play or see a concert as easily as they can float the Yakima River or hike gorgeous
Manastash Ridge. In addition to the Film Festival, Ellensburg plays host to a number of annual and on-going
events, including July’s Jazz in the Valley, September’s Paint Ellensburg, January’s WinterHop BrewFest,
February’s Spirit of the West Cowboy Gathering, the monthly First Friday Art Walk, a weekly farmers market
and more.

What eff events and films are achieving
• Two films that screened at last years 4th Annual Ellensburg Film Festival, Man on Wire and Trouble the Water, went
head-to-head in the Best Documentary Feature category at this years 81st Academy Awards ceremony. At the end of
the evening Man on Wire took home the Oscar for Best Documentary Feature.
• The documentary Wink and a Smile, part of our 2008 program, was filmed in Seattle and produced by Golden Echo
Films comprised of writer/director Dierdre Timmons, producer Jack Timmons, and director of photography Peter
Waweru. We had the pleasure of welcoming Dierdre and Jack Timmons to the festival, who were gracious enough to
participate in a meet and greet with festival participants. Since the 2008 festival, Wink and a Smile has been picked up
by First Run Features. Wink and a Smile can currently be seen, in limited release, in theatres across North America.
• For 20 years, Moving Images Video Project has produced and distributed documentaries about war and peace, human
rights, global justice, and protection for the environment. Founded by Melissa Young and Mark Dworkin, their focus is
to increase understanding in the United States of political and social issues. For the second time in EFF history, Melissa
and Mark attended our 2008 festival to present their film Good Food. The documentary about organic farming in the
Pacific Northwest. Good Food has been shown at film festivals across the country and will air on PBS this spring.
• This year the 5th Annual Ellensburg Film Festival is actively preparing to host several educational events. For instance,
our monthly Film Forum that offers viewers quality films, while expanding the communities knowledge of cinema and
the enhancment of their appreciation of the filmmaking process. Another educational events we are proud to present
is the Tools 4 Actors workshop with the Northwest’s most successful casting director, Lana Veenker, of Lana Veenker
Casting. She has worked as a casting director for almost 10 years, on films such as “Twilight,” “Paranoid Park,”
“Untraceable” and “Feast of Love.” Lana knows what it means to be a professional in the entertainment industry and
is passionate about helping actors in the community, outside Hollywood, break into the business by helping to develop
the mindset of a professional.
