CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER Position Description Position: Chief Executive Officer Location: Level 6, 225 Bourke Street, Melbourne VIC 3000 Position type: One year, full-time contract with three month probation Remuneration: $60,000 package Reports to: Chairperson of the HRAFF Board Time commitment: Expected time commitment averaging 38 hours per week. It is expected that hours will increase during peak periods, and significantly reduce in the period immediately following the Festival. The CEO will need to attend 2-hour board meetings every 6 weeks, which will normally be outside of regular business hours. Some interstate and international travel is required. ABOUT HRAFF The Human Rights Arts and Film Festival (HRAFF) is a dynamic organisation that aims to make human rights accessible and engaging to everyone through creative media. In its 8th year, HRAFF has grown rapidly since its inception in 2007, presenting a two-week long festival in Melbourne before traveling to six cities across Australia. HRAFF’s vision is a vibrant human rights culture and community across Australia. To achieve this, HRAFF engages its audiences, supporters and the creative community to deliver an annual festival. Each year, the festival showcases award-winning film premieres, art exhibitions, speakers and forums that illuminate human rights issues. HRAFF also runs a year-round Schools and Community Program that screens films in workplaces, councils, government departments and schools in and around Melbourne and other festival fundraiser events. POSITION DESCRIPTION HRAFF is looking for an experienced, skilled and passionate Chief Executive Officer to lead this rapidly growing organisation. This is a demanding position but is also a highly rewarding one. It is an opportunity to lead and develop a significant cultural event on Melbourne’s calendar with a passionate and dedicated team. RESPONSIBILITIES Deliver the 2016 Festival § Lead, manage and oversee all aspects of festival operation to successfully deliver the 2016 Festival. § Grow the organisation’s corporate and philanthropic support base to ensure financial sustainability. § Work collaboratively with the Program Director to ensure that HRAFF’s vision is delivered through the creative program. § Work with the Marketing and Development Manager and a volunteer marketing team to build on the HRAFF brand and implement a marketing strategy that grows and broadens HRAFF’s audience. § Create a positive, supportive and fun work environment for all staff and volunteers that prioritises high retention. § Ensure that the HRAFF office and all working conditions consistently comply with all regulatory requirements. § Post event report writing, evaluation and analysis. Financial management and business development § Develop and maintain strong relationships with HRAFF’s stakeholders to increase HRAFF’s profile, increase audience numbers and secure financial and in-kind support. § Be a HRAFF spokesperson for key HRAFF stakeholders, events and some interviews. § Identify and pursue potential partnership opportunities, with an emphasis on long term, sustainable relationships. § Manage sponsorship, grant and donor relationships including negotiating, writing and implementing funding agreements and acquittals. § Oversee all income generating activities of the festival to achieve budget targets. § Work with the Board treasurer to prepare and manage budgets, implement financial controls and monitor financial risks. Strategy and governance § Engage and support HRAFF’s board with timely and strategic advice and reporting. § Carry ultimate operational responsibility for HRAFF’s purposes § Review, evaluate and implement HRAFF’s strategic and business plan, in collaboration and consultation with the board. § Maintain and manage an efficient and effective organisational structure. § Annually review HRAFF’s operational policies and procedures that facilitate open, transparent communication and retention of organisational knowledge nationally KEY SELECTION CRITERIA HRAFF is looking for someone with the following skills and experience, which include: § Strong leadership skills, including demonstration of initiative and vision. § Highly developed teamwork skills, including demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with and motivate a volunteer workforce. § Demonstrated ability to identify, negotiate, secure and sustain financial and in-kind partnerships. § Strong communication, public speaking and negotiation skills with the ability to network and build strong relationships with the media and diverse range of stakeholders. § Experience in leading the development and implementation of strategic and business plans, establishing frameworks for decision-making and reporting and setting and achieving strategic and financial targets. § An understanding of the opportunities and challenges that a festival presenting creative responses to human rights issues faces. § Excellent organisational management and problem-solving skills. § Strong financial literacy and ability to develop, understand and work to budgets. § Established networks in key sectors in which HRAFF operates. § Commitment to HRAFF’s objectives, mission, vision and values. The following skills and experience will be highly regarded but not all are required: § Demonstrated experience working in the arts and/or film industry. § Demonstrated experience working on human rights and social justice issues. § Demonstrated experience working in business development and marketing roles. § Demonstrated project and event management experience. § Proven success in obtaining and maintaining sponsorship and long term funding streams. § Successful grant writing experience.
