e.motion21 everyone.

Dear families and friends
WOW!! What a fun day! It was so
great to see all of our dancers get up
and show off their skills! Not only that,
they all got a sneak peek at our new
Celebrity Ambassador, who will be
officially announced on WDSD @ Fed
Square.
We are so proud of all of our dancers
for their efforts on the day.
There are exciting and unique
opportunities in store for 2015 and I
can’t wait to share in the journey with
you all!
First up, we have our annual World
Down Syndrome Celebrations @
Fed Square on Friday 20 March @
12.30pm! Check out our 2014 event.
This year marks the 10th anniversary
of the UN sanctioned WDSD, and we
intend to make this year’s event
bigger and better than ever. With
plans to launch the results of our
RMIT Beat Fit™ research, a
new collaboration with The Australian
Ballet School, Beat Fit™ with
the Carlton F.C. players and the
announcement of our new
Ambassador - you don’t want to miss
this fun, free public event packed with
celebrities and awesome
entertainment! Tell everyone and
bring along your workmates, family
and friends - we want a HUGE crowd
to fill Fed Square and celebrate our
Offers for the program will commence
early next week.

Session
For those of you who missed it, the
India Information & Discussion Pack
that was presented on the weekend
can be found on our website along
with the rehearsal schedule and
registration form.
To ensure that you receive all further
communications about India, please
ensure you complete this form and
return it to us so we can keep you
informed of our progress.
We are also delighted by the offers of
support from parents to be part of our
India working group. Sam Kennedy,
Michelle McCormack and Fiona Boyd
will be working with us to bring the
families perspectives to all of our
planning and we thank them in
advance for their support and
commitment to making this a well
planned and memorable trip.

In August 2015, our students and
families will pack their bags to travel to
Chennai, India to participate in the
World Down Syndrome Congress. It
was brilliant to see so many families at
our first information session last
Sunday. This tour is gearing up to an
amazing and life-changing trip. For

How long have you been with
e.motion21?
Since October 2011, so three
and a half years.
As well as all of these fantastic events,
2015 will be a year of growth for
e.motion21 as we explore interstate
pop up classes and ways to
strengthen our impact in the
community. Our core aim is to
enhance lives and change perceptions
of Down syndrome within society – we

with e.motion21?
I was doing support work with an
adult with Down syndrome and it
was my job to bring him to dance
class. Right there and then I
asked who I needed to talk to get
involved.

and Sarah Marshall (Geelong) will be

I am a teacher in a special
school, I am obsessed with
spending time with my
dachshund –Elliot, I enjoy
hanging with my friends and
family and watching too many

Needed!
We are currently seeking an
e.motion21 parent to sit on the
Board and to not only bring their
personal skills to the table but to
represent the interest of our
families. If you’re interested, we
are looking for someone who is
prepared to be a strong
advocate for e.motion21, the
participants and families. You
will need to be able to devote
Beat Fit™ Update!
Class Expansions
We are so excited to announce that
our Beat Fit™ program has expanded
in 2015! Our high-energy, fast-paced
fitness programs are now available at
two new sites in regional Victoria –
Ballarat and Bendigo.
Interested in seeing Beat Fit™ come
to your site – Register your interest
here. Please note at least 10
enrolments are required to start Beat
Fit™ in new locations.
Research
We plan to launch the long anticipated
results of the 2014 research on our
Beat Fit™ classes on WDSD @ Fed
Square. The full report will be
available on our website following the
event.

21 March 2015 marks the 10th
anniversary of World Down Syndrome
Day, a UN sanctioned day which
exists to raise awareness of people
with Down syndrome in society.
e.motion21 will celebrate this day with
a performance at Federation Square
on Friday 20 March. This all ages,
lunchtime event will be a vibrant,
colourful and fun demonstration of
what young people with Down
Syndrome can achieve when given
the opportunity! Grab your lunch and
a friend and come along to this free
event to support our young performers
put on yet another fabulous show and
move boundaries in society.
When: 20 March, 12:30pm – 1:15pm

Gala Dinner
This year, in order to raise funds
for e.motion21 and to support
our dancers to travel to India for
the WDSC in 2015, e.motion21
will be hosting an inaugural Gala
dinner at the Hawthorn Arts
Centre! This is an event that will
showcase the talents and
abilities of our dancers to
corporate partners, Government
officials, philanthropic
organisations, as well as
individuals. There will be an
amazing display of performances
and entertainment that will make
for a sensational Bollywood
themed evening. To purchase

Creative Kick Off
To ‘kick off’ the start of a new
e.motion21 year, some of us got
together to discuss the year ahead
and generated some ideas to make
this year bigger and better than ever!

Ballarat RM
Linda Kinnersly
Born and raised in Ballarat, Linda is
experienced in Performing Arts
management having been a Manager
at the Royal South Street Society,
Australia’s longest running Eisteddfod
encompassing over 10,000 performers
during 13 weeks of performances
annually.
Linda has loved dance all her life. She
began dancing when she was just six
years old and continued classical
training and then performing in
musical theatre for another eighteen
years. “I love the joy and musicality
that dance provides and it is a creative
outlet I am now able to share with my
three daughters”.
Linda is thrilled to work for e.motion21
and is looking forward to working with
the Ballarat e.motion21 families and
within the local community.

Sarah Marshall
2015 brings about another year
of the triennial World Down
Syndrome Congress – this time
to be hosted in Chennai, India.
For the second time, e.motion21
have been invited to bring along
a delegation to perform on the
world stage! This is such an
amazing opportunity for our
dancers. It allows them not only
to do what they love, dance, but
also to meet new people from
around the world, learn about a
new culture, and to experience a
whole new place.

Sarah was the Director and owner of
her own dance school in Melbourne
for nine years. While taking a career
break to have her two daughters, she
completed a Masters of Arts and
Cultural Management at The
University of Melbourne. Since
moving regionally Sarah has looked to
work in a way that provides a benefit
to the community in which she now
lives. She has worked at Courthouse
Arts, The Loft Dance Studio and the
Geelong Region Local Learning and
Employment Network. Having taught
dance to hundreds of children, Sarah
firmly believes that art, and in
particular dance, is more than the
aesthetic and she is very excited to be
joining the passionate team at
e.motion21 to work to enable children
and young adults with Down
syndrome to enjoy all the benefits this
wonderful art form has to offer.
