Sport - Senior School 5/05/2015 · Posted by Pauline Braun 0 Comments · INVITATIONAL CROSS COUNTRY MEET Last Tuesday afternoon we hosted our Annual Invitational Cross Country Meet at the Sherwood Arboretum. There were 11 schools in attendance (including all QG Schools with the exception of St Hilda's) and close to 600 athletes competing at the event. The testing course has a great reputation as an ideal lead up race for the QGSSSA Championships. This year's record number of nominations is testament to how successfully Mr Bailey and his team have organised this event in previous years. St Aidan's had 55 girls compete across the 6 age groups. Of the 55 girls that competed, 48 ran a faster time than they did at the Interhouse carnival the previous week. This is an amazing statistic and something that the team should take great confidence from. I would like to acknowledge the following girls on their significant achievements at the meet: Tayla Behr 1st Place 13 Years 11:22 (2nd fastest time of the day all ages) Rhoda Thornton 2nd Place 17 Years 11:26 (3rd fastest time of the day all ages) Hayley Walker 2nd Place 16 Years 12:03 (40 second PB on Sherwood Course) Kate Riethmuller 3rd Place 14 Years 12:31 PB's for the Sherwood Arboretum course (30sec +) Lilley Bishop: 1min 21sec Sway Randle: 1min 7sec Gabby Cooper: 1min 14sec Lucy Macdonald: 51sec Jo Gracey: 1min 07sec Kate Cormack: 1min 26sec Emma Schoutrop: 53 sec Madison Peabody: 1min 21sec Rina Toto: 58 sec Lara Soo: 1min Erin Sundstrom: 41 sec Emily Evans: 40 sec Georgia Douglas: 41 sec Madi Krummel: 38 sec Laura Sharkey: 30sec Kennedy Hobson: 41 sec Thank you to Mr Russ, Mr Bailey, Mr Kemp, Mr Macdonald, Ms Farrer, Ms Bolger and our maintenance team for their assistance in ensuring that the afternoon was a success. QGSSSA AUTUMN FIXTURES Round 5 of the Autumn Fixtures against St Peter's Lutheran College was declared an abandoned round and no fixtures will be replayed. This week we host St Hilda's. A copy of the draw is available on the Senior Sport Portal, App and Facebook page. Good luck to all teams! Please note that Touch Fixtures this week will be played at the flood lit touch fields at Whites Hill Reserve, Boundary Road, Camp Hill. QGSSSA ARTISTIC GYMNASTICS SUCCESS! Last Wednesday our Artistic Gymnastics team recorded one of our best ever results at the QGSSSA WAG Championships. Our girls won three of the eight divisions we competed in, taking out the Open, A Grade and B Grade competitions. This is a fantastic achievement and one we are all very proud of. I would like to commend all team members for their dedication to the sport over the last four months in the lead up to this event. For some girls, particularly in the younger grades, this was their first experience at a competition level and we also have some girls at the other end of the spectrum who are training in excess of 20 hours a week at club level and will be representing Queensland at the National Titles over the next few weeks. I think this illustrates what a wonderful job our coach Kirsten Cole has done in bringing the team together and she deserves a lot of accolades for our success. I would like to thank and acknowledge our Gymnastics Co-ordinator Ms Crome who did a terrific job in her first year in this role and also our captains Caitlyn Bowell and Jessica Gralton who led the team admirably.
