Construct a title page in your workbook for this unit
“I Am a Writer”
Please complete a before and after web about short stories.
You need to collect one of these from your teacher and paste into
your workbook.
Look up the definitions for this week’s SST and write your
own definition for each in your workbook.
Go back to the weebly site and open the Story Wheel
document. Copy this into your workbook.
We will discuss the Story Wheel next lesson where you will be
making notes in your workbook.
“The Letter”
Read “The Letter’ by Sally Morgan. Annotate this narrative
by identifying the:
Ÿ elements of the narrative
Ÿ structure
Ÿ characteristics of a short story
Ÿ language techniques
Mirror Task Due Week 2 - 29th April
Compose an orientation paragraph for the stimulus below.
Remember to ‘hook in’ your reader as well as using the five
senses.
Mirror Task Due Week 4 – 13th May
Compose a short story consisting of 800 words using a stimulus
provided.
Informal Task Due Week 5 – 20th May
“Short stories use many different techniques to engage an
audience.” How does one of the stories studied in the unit prove
this statement?
Construct a PEETEEEL analysis table where you identify at least
three techniques from your chosen story. Complete this on the
analysis table handout.
Formal Task Due Week 4 – 13th May and Week 6 – 26th May
Wednesday 13th May – come to class prepared to write the first
draft for your short story.
Tuesday 26th May – under exam conditions you will write an
evaluation of the short story you have composed. You will also
submit your first draft and final copy of your short story.
Success criteria:
I have created a title page for this unit.
I have completed a before and after web to demonstrate my
current knowledge of short stories.
I understand the subject specific terminology and have written
definitions for each in my own words.
I have copied the story wheel into my workbook and have made
notes from class discussions.
I have read “The Letter” and made necessary annotations.
I have noted in my student planner when my tasks are due in
Week 2, Week 4 and Week 5.
