THEME
TUG OF WAR: FOSSIL FUELS VS. RENEWABLES
> For decades, there has been a huge debate amongst academics and industries
regarding the pros and cons of fossil fuels and renewables, which resemble a neverending tug-of-war.
> It is time to pick a side to determine which one will benefit the current global
condition economically, socially and environmentally.
OBJECTIVES
> To educate and to raise awareness of the importance of process safety be it in
the fossil fuel field or the renewable energy field.
> To enable participants to practice critical thinking to solve real life problems in
the industries which could be applicable in the future.
DESCRIPTION
> This presentation should include the definition of fossil fuels and renewables
(from the team’s point of view), comparison of both field of process safety via
aspects such as challenges, advantages, co-related issues or incidents and solutions
(aspects can be altered as long as relevant).
> To encourage participants to pick a side of the Tug-of-War (fossil fuels of
renewables).
> Then, with the side chosen, either fossil fuels or renewables, the main objective is
to identify which field requires more enhancement or improvements in terms of
process safety.
> The submitted videos must fulfill the theme of NACES 2015. The video shall
comprise of the values regarding the subject matter particularly regarding process
safety of the side chosen and illustrate the enhancement implied onto the field.
>
Credits will be given to videos which have the most impact through process
safety improvements and critical thinking.
PRIZES
> The THREE(3) best video presentations will be selected as the winning videos:
- 1st Prize : RM 800.00, certificate & trophy
- 2nd Prize : RM 600.00, certificate & trophy
- 3rd Prize : RM 400.00, certificate & trophy
> All participating parties will be given a certificate of participation.

RESULTS
ELIGIBILITY
The winners of this competition will be announced during NACES 2015 closing
ceremony.
> Participants must be full-time undergraduate students in a Chemical Engineering
Program run by one of the participating universities/institutions.
> The participants must submit an attested copy of student identity card (ID) along
with the entry form.
>
JUDGEMENT
CRITERIA
The group can consist of students from any year of study.
> Teams will be judged mainly based on the video presentation and presentation
during the competition day (90%).
> Uploaded copies of the video on www.youtube.com shall be marked according to
number of likes (10%).
> A copy of the marking criteria will be attached to this rules and regulations.
> The judges/ decisions are final and no correspondence will be entertained
RULES AND
REGULATIONS
> Each participating university/institution may submit TWO(2) teams comprising of
TWO(2) students.
> This is a TWO(2) staged competition. Only selected teams will advance to the final
stage.
> The videos must be original and once plagiarism is detected, the participation will
be annulled.
> The videos must be a team work comprise of TWO (2) people only.
> The videos must be uploaded on www.youtube.com by 23rd October 2015 and
have to be set as PUBLIC named [NACES 2015-University Name-Team(1/2)-Title].
> The participants need to send an email of their video title and the link of their
video to the host of NACES 2015 by 23rd October 2015.
> The host will hold the right to publish the submitted videos for future publications
without prior notice to the participants.
> Entry which does not comply with any of the above rules will be automatically
disqualified.
FORMAT
> All videos must use English as the medium language.
> Length of the videos should be about 5 – 10 minutes.
> Each team is given 5 minutes for technical set up, 5 – 10 minutes for playing the
video, 5 minutes for oral presentation on their video and 5 minutes for the question
and answer sessions.
> A 300 words summary of the video is also required in this competition.
> Citations need to be included as footnotes if any form of references is used to
produce his/her videos. The citations must include the following criterions: author,
year, title, journal title, volume, page number (if any).

VIDEO
> The videos MUST BE in AVI format and SHOULD BE burnt in a CD or DVD.
GUIDELINES
> If the host failed to run the CD or DVD, the participation will be automatically
annulled.
> The cover page should consist of :
- Title of the video
- Name of the participants’ university/institution
- Name and IC number of each participant (with the name of the team
leader at first)
- Year of study of each participant
- Contact number and email address of each participant
SUBMISSION
Entry Form Submission
GUIDELINES
> Participants are required to fill up the ENTRY FORM provided in order to confirm
their participation. The entry form should be submitted to the host latest by 15th
July 2015 via email : [email protected]
> Entry form of all competitions for each university/institution should be submitted
collectively, together with the list of participants. It should be sent via email before
the dateline.
> Any changes of the participants must be informed 2 WEEKS earlier before the
day of the event.
Video Submission
> Submission dateline: 23rd October 2015
> Please submit the video link, summary and cover page via email:
[email protected] before end of submission date.
> The video and cover page SHOULD BE in the AVI format and PDF file,
respectively.
>
All successful receipt of submissions will be notified via the provided email.
> THREE (3) copies of hardcopy for video’s summary and cover page MUST BE
submitted during the registration.

**These guidelines need to be closely followed. The host has all the rights to
eliminate/annul/disqualify any parties that violate the guidelines as stated above. Such
actions may be taken by the host without any prior notice to the respective parties.
**The judges' decisions are final and any challenges or appeals to the decisions will not be
entertained any prior notice the respective parties.
