Title: Program Assistant for the International Summer Immersion Program
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Program Assistants (PA) are undergraduate students hired to work with admitted first year University of
Rochester international students during the International Summer Immersion Program. PAs must demonstrate
academic excellence, strong leadership skills and a passion for creating an inclusive, safe, supportive and fun
environment for new international students. PAs will be responsible for planning and implementing social
activities on and off campus, weekends and weekdays. PAs will serve as resident advisers and mentors during
the program. PAs will be expected to act as a team and serve as a liaison between students and coordinators.
Program dates: July 25- August 22
Training dates: July 22-24 (subject to change and may include late Spring meetings)
QUALIFICATIONS:
 Good academic standing and disciplinary status
 Registered as a full-time undergraduate student
 Comfortable having daily contact with faculty, students and administrators
 Cross cultural sensitivity
 Planning and management skills (includes working with budgets)
 Strong communication skills (both written and oral)
 Ability to produce reports within specific timeframes
 Committed to helping new international students adjust to campus life
 Excellent listening skills
GENERAL DUTIES:
 Plan and implement activities in coordination with the Graduate Program Coordinator (GPC)
 Greet, direct, and orient program participants on move in day
 Coordinate airport pick up and shopping trips
 Be fully available on program weekends and assigned evenings
 Live in residence hall and serve as Residential Advisor during Summer Immersion Program
 Participate in regularly scheduled meetings with supervisor, Graduate Program Coordinator, staff and
faculty
 Serve as a caring, compassionate mentor to students
 Be directly responsible for the welfare and supervision of all students. This include ensuring safety and
communicating issues and needs immediately to GPC
 Provide office support as assigned
 Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor

SALARY RANGE: $1,800- $1,850 (room and board also provided)
