This diamond-grade green energy building is the first to have a self-reserved book pick up machine and will be the first public library in Taiwan to open 24 hours a day. The whole library is designed according to the principle of universal design and offers unrestricted access. The library’s innovative services include a Window on the World slow reading section, a full range of periodicals and magazines, and the New Taipei Memory Center. 2015 New Taipei City Hakka Tung Blossom Festival will be held from 11/04/2015 to 03/05/2015 in New Taipei City. The main event will take place at Nantianmu Square in Tucheng on the 25th and 26th of April. As well as exciting performances by local schools, arts groups and Hakka societies, there will also be tung blossom painting, tung blossom DIY and a tung blossom market, and other interesting activities. As the custodians of the public souls, temples provide “lucky charms” to allow the public to pray for continued protection from the gods. As creative industries are flourishing, many temples are welcoming modern trends and designing all kinds of “protective” talismans, but the traditional “lucky charm” is gradually disappearing. It is hoped the “lucky charms” hidden in every corner of Taiwan can be rediscovered. More important is passing them on, and for them to continue to protect our next generation! Yingge The Second New Taipei City Ceramics Awards Date: Now until 06/21 Venue: 3F Gallery The New Taipei City Ceramics Awards include two awards, the Achievement Award and the Innovation Award. The winner of the former this year, Wang Hsiu-Kung, is a veteran ceramic artist from Taiwan who wrote a new page in the history of ceramics in Taiwan with his unique high temperature under-glaze coloring technique. Engaged in ceramic art for almost 60 years, he has made a substantial contribution to the field of ceramic art in Taiwan. The Innovation award is divided in the Creative Category and Utilitarian Category, providing a stage on which creative ceramic art and practically useful ceramic art can be shown. The remains of animals unearthed at archeological sites are used to teach visitors about how the ancient people lived and their living environment. Through exploring the 80 learning stations in seven themed areas visitors will learn from humans and interactions with animals and the environment. Gold Museum, New Taipei City Government Wulai In Atayal culture, the Jew’s harp is a musical instrument used to convey messages in place of language; the instrument is mainly used to express feelings of love. The heart-shaped Jew’s harp has been developed by Wulai Atayal Museum; in the Two Hearts Beat as One Jew’s Harp Experience Fun course participants are taught how to make a heart-shaped Jew’s harp. In the making of the Jew’s harp, visitors can not only learn more about the Atayal culture but they can also present the Jew’s harp to someone as a token of their affection. Then, how does the 18,000 plus kilometers of coast from the Liaodong Peninsula to Hainan Island be defended? What was the development process of Qing dynasty’s Warships and Waterborne Forces? This exhibition has been meticulously planned by Tamkang University’s Maritime Museum and the Department of History, giving visitors an introduction to Qing dynasty’s coastal defenses.
