New Taipei City Library New Main Library is located in
Banqiao District. This diamond-grade green energy building
is the first to have a self-reserved book pick up machine and
will be the first public library in Taiwan to open 24 hours a
day. The whole library is designed according to the principle
of universal design and offers unrestricted access. The library’s
innovative services include a Window on the World slow
reading section, a full range of periodicals and magazines, and
the New Taipei Memory Center.

at “435 Little Bosses’ Market” to give the objects awaiting
recycling another chance and contribute to the protection of
the Earth.
The market features family flea market, creative DIY toy
workshops, Magic Bubbles games, street performers and
other fun activities. Among which, the family yard sales
welcome moms, dads and their little ones to set up stalls
and experience what it is like to be little bosses as they bring used items from
home and sell them to those who need them at low prices.

The Unsung Pushing Hands Behind the Modernization of
Taipei—110th Anniversary of the Death of Mr. Lin Wei-yuan

Under the leadership of Lin Wei-yuan the businesses of the
Lin family of Banqiao flourished at the end of the Qing
Dynasty, making them the richest family in Taiwan. He was
also the highest ranking Taiwanese government official in
the Qing government and, as Governor Liu Ming-chuan
pushed the modernization of Taiwan, Lin Wei-yuan was
closely involved, whether it was the building of railways,
developing mines or building Taipei City Wall. He was, indeed, the unsung
pushing hands behind the modernization of Taipei.

Cool and Collected - 1960s Poole Pottery from England

Venue: B1 Ceramics Hallway
Poole Pottery has been making pottery very different to that
made by commercial pottery companies since the 1960s. Its
Delphi series, with bright glaze colors and unique designs,
is loved by many pottery aficionados. Curator Graham
Finch loves this series and collected pieces over many years
with the aim of illustrating the importance of Poole Pottery
in the 1960s and the artistic value of the Delphi series,
recreating the glory days of Poole Pottery.
This year is the 110th anniversary of his death. This exhibition will have text and
photographic introductions and will also, through the skilled hands of masters of
traditional crafts, create various works using various media that are connected to
Lin’s life and achievements, so that visitors have a better understanding of his great
contribution to the modernization of Taipei.

Jew’s Harp experience fun

On International Museum Day May 18, Shihsanhang
Museum of Archeology will present a series of activities
based on the Dapenkeng Culture “rope-pattern pottery”
concept, showing the life wisdom of prehistoric people
through archeological artifacts. The activities include an
adventure game and DIY activity; through games and
hands-on experience, visitors will learn how to tie knots
to keep records and use ropes to bind stone implements;
environmentally friendly straw and Beautiful Galangal
stem can also be used to make rope, giving visitors a taste
of what it feels like to be a “rope pattern culture person.”

In Atayal culture, the Jew’s harp is a musical
instrument used to convey messages in place
of language; the instrument is mainly used
to express feelings of love. The heart-shaped
Jew’s harp has been developed by Wulai
Atayal Museum; in the Two Hearts Beat
as One Jew’s Harp Experience Fun course
participants are taught how to make a heartshaped Jew’s harp. In the making of the
Jew’s harp, visitors can not only learn more about the Atayal culture but they
can also present the Jew’s harp to someone as a token of their affection.

Original new naturalism is a series of
works created by the artist when he was
exploring his personal style and painting
language. Various mediums include oil
paints, acrylic paint and actual natural
objects are freely applied to the canvas
in non-image and purely abstract artistic
forms. The life situations stored in his
inner world and external natural images
are converted into dots, lines and planes that are colorful, can cross time
and space and have a sense of rhythm, conveying the artist’s wonder art and
exploration of all the things in the universe and the life principle of nature.

and enjoy because of the good fortune and beauty they possess.
