CARE WORKER

Purpose of Position
To share with other staff the responsibility of meeting the personal care outcomes of our customers in a way that
respects their dignity and promotes independence and wellbeing. The service provided by our care workers is
expected to include care that would reasonably be given by members of the service user’s own family and is not
expected to include tasks that would normally be undertaken by a trained nurse.
We have certain, non-exhaustive, standards that must be met at all times:
 Meeting the agreed outcomes of our customers
 Respecting our customers wishes and choices as individuals
 Assisting with social and community objectives
 Promoting a positive company image at all times
 Ensuring the privacy and dignity and safety of our customers

Positively encourage customers to be independent in all aspects of their lives.
Support reablement wherever possible.
Encourage participation to increase independence.
Encourage and support social inclusion wherever possible.
Do not allow unnecessary dependence on healthcare workers or services.

Actively communicate with customers. Engage them in stimulating conversation
and inform them of tasks that are being done.
Report to the Care Team any incidents, safeguarding issues, change in condition
or wellbeing, medication errors etc…
To monitor, record and report on the wellbeing and nutritional health of the
customer and to monitor and report any medication or wound care issues that
may arise.
Inform the Care Team if you are unable to work. This must be done at the
earliest opportunity (normally when you receive your rota).
Inform the Care Team if you are running late by 15 minutes or more.
Discuss issues that you have with the Care Team, NOT the customer.




Recording
Respect the customer’s right to make their own choices and take risks (unless it
could cause harm).
Offer information and support to customers who may lack capacity to make their
own choices and work with the Registered Care Manager to support the
independence of the customer.
Ensure the customers dignity and privacy is respected at all times.
Respect the customer’s ethical and religious beliefs regardless of your own
opinions and ethics.






Communication and
reporting
Commit to understand the needs of the customer and support them to meet the
agreed outcomes of their care support package and enable our customers to live
as independently as their condition allows respecting their privacy and dignity.
Assist with meal preparation and ensure the appropriate intake of fluids. To
promote healthy living through effective nutrition practices and where possible
encouraging the customer to prepare their own meals.




Record all tasks carried out during an assignment.
Your log must include information about the customer’s general wellbeing
Nutritional information recorded where the assignment requires meal preparation.
Medication given must be recorded on the appropriate charts and report any
errors the Care Team immediately.

Never divulge any information to third parties that are not authorised to receive it
without the express permission of the Registered Care Manager.
Ensure that information given to you is kept secure and safeguard it against loss,
damage or corruption.
Comply with all company policies and procedures we have in place to protect the
privacy, dignity and respect of our customers.
Be aware of national legislation and regulations that affects the healthcare
industry as well as local authority guidelines and rules.
Aim to be the best that you possibly can and provide care that promotes
independence.
Positively aim to increase your own knowledge and skills by taking an active
interest in your continued professional development.
Undertake a relevant induction process when required by do do so at the request
of your Registered Care Manager.
Commit to training and attend updates as necessary. Carers who do not attend
training will have their work halted.
Be prepared to undertake, if asked to do so, a nationally recognised qualification
such as a QCF Diploma.
Attend all spot-check, supervisions and appraisals when requested to do so.
Be prepared to register, if asked to do so, to undertake the Social Care
Commitment.
Be prepared to undertake any additional training that the Registered Care
Manager feels necessary for you to effectively carry out your job role.
To positively fulfil any reasonable request the company asks of you that fall within
the range of the responsibilities of your job role.
This will include, but not be limited to:
o Working outside of your normal geographic area.
o Providing peer support and assessments if you hold a nationally
recognised qualification.
o Respecting and fulfilling any orders or directives given to you by a
member of the Care Team.
o Attending additional training where requested to do so.

as so. The Registered Manager or another person of authority will be able to decide if compliance is being met with
regards to your job role and take appropriate action to ensure that your job role objectives are being met.
