What is UNESCO? "United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization" UNESCO strives to build networks among nations that enable this kind of solidarity, by: Mobilizing for education: so that every child, boy or girl, has access to quality education as a fundamental human right and as a prerequisite for human development. Building intercultural understanding: through protection of heritage and support for cultural diversity. UNESCO created the idea of World Heritage to protect sites of outstanding universal value. Pursuing scientific cooperation: such as early warning systems for tsunamis or trans-boundary water management agreements, to strengthen ties between nations and societies. Protecting freedom of expression: an essential condition for democracy, development and human dignity. IAU UNESCO İstanbul Aydın University's UNESCO Chair in Cultural Diplomacy, Governance and Education (CDGE) established in 2014, is a necessity in the multicultural societies of today. The most immediate task for politics in this context is to reflect the diversity of cultures in its decision-making structures. Cultural diplomacy is regarded as forming international bridges and interactions, identifying networks and power domains within cultures and transcending national and cultural boundaries. Cultural diplomacy is the initiation or facilitation of the exchange of ideas, values, traditions and other aspects of culture or identity, whether it promote national interests in coherence with International peace and suitability, build relationships or enhance sociocultural understanding. Cultural Diplomacy combined to Education can nurture a "Culture of Sustainability". Vision Our vision is to be a leading higher education institution delivering contemporary and innovative academic programs and educating individuals who have the requisite knowledge and the ability to use technology in their fields and can apply knowledge to production processes. Objectives Our Objectives To form international bridges and interactions by identifying networks and power domains within intercultural exchanges, facilitation of the exchange of ideas, values, traditions and other aspects of culture and identity. To promote International peace and sustainability, build relationships and enhance sociocultural understanding with academic institutions and international organizations. To share knowledge and information with partner's institutions about research activities, capacity building of common research projects. To facilitate the active participation of the teaching and research staff and students of the Istanbul Aydin University, and other partner institutions, in Turkey and abroad, for the implementation of relevant UNESCO activities. To foster advanced teaching and research, to facilitate the exchange of scientists and to increase the availability of outstanding specialists within the participating institutions. Establish an international committee of scientists and practitioners that will form the core of the community of interests for the consolidation of interdisciplinary networks of researchers. Long Term: To promote global peace and stability by strengthening and supporting intercultural relations at all levels. To analyze the process of education differences and educational policies in North/South countries and explore changes and future scenarios in World higher education with the aim of improving knowledge and capacity for action in developing countries higher education systems and institutions, To extend academic research, programs and practices in the field of cultural diplomacy and education.
