NOVEMBER 2012
Community Service Update:
EMPTY BOWL PROJECT: We would like to thank the OVER 50 STUDENTS who participated
in the Empty Bowl Project as well as the 12 volunteers that helped make it a success! We
would also like to thank all BW families who have participated in the H&S fundraisers, which
allowed us to subsidize 50% of the cost of the bowls so more students could participate. The
bowls will be donated to the Lord's Pantry Annual Empty Bowl Project fundraiser. This
organization’s mission is to feed the needy in Downingtown, Exton, & Lionville communities.
COAT DRIVE: We would like to thank all the BW families who donated over 60 coats plus
hats, gloves and scarves! These will be donated to CYWA (Community, Youth and Women's
Alliance) women’s and children’s shelter in Coatesville. They are extremely appreciative!
THANKSGIVING FOOD DRIVE: We will be having our annual Thanksgiving Food Drive
November 12-16. Items will be donated to families in the Downingtown area. We will be
looking for the following non-perishable items: coffee, stuffing, tea, instant mashed potatoes,
hot chocolate, cans of beans, juice, cans of corn, coffee, cans of cranberry sauce, canned
fruit, cans of gravy, pies from our Market Day fundraiser, and/or turkeys. Monetary donations
to purchase these items will also be accepted. A flyer with details will be sent home in Red
Family Folders.
4th Annual Craft and Gift Market (the new & improved Holiday Boutique)
Don’t miss this great opportunity to purchase handmade gifts and crafts for the holiday season!

9 am - 2 pm
The event features over 45 local vendors selling handmade gifts and crafts, as well as fun family activities.
This year's market will include an outdoor, harvest-themed venue with a farmer's market, hayrides, games,
and crafts! Refreshments will be available to shoppers, too.
Students can also market their own handmade items at free tables provided by Home & School.
Look for additional event information, as well as vendor and student applications for selling space, in Red
Family Folders, or go to http://bwhsa.org/market.
Oh… and did we happen to mention that
Dia Doce gourmet cupcakes will be there?
Be sure to come check them out and maybe taste
one, two, or eight of their delicious cupcakes!

BRANDYWINE WALLACE – THE EAGLE’S EYE NEWSLETTER
And now, some news from…
Our School Nurse, Mary Vorndran
Along with the Family Fall Festival, pumpkin carving,
and giving thanks, cold and flu season is also just
around the bend. According to the Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention (and moms and dads
everywhere) keeping our hands clean is the first line of
defense against germs, the simplest and most effective
way to stay healthy as we spend more time together
indoors. Remembering to cover your nose and mouth
with a tissue, or the crook of your elbow, when your
cough or sneeze is another way to prevent sharing germs.
Also, please be aware that cases of pertussis ("whooping
cough") are surfacing more frequently than in the past.
Please check with your doctor to ensure your children are
up to date on the Tdap vaccine, which protects against
this disease. And while you're at it, check with your
doctor about getting that flu shot! The CDC advises
everyone over the age of 6 months to get the flu vaccine.
Have a wonderful, and healthy, fall and winter!
