Merrythought has been hand-making the quintessential English teddy
bear in the World Heritage Site of Ironbridge, Shropshire, since 1930.
Inspired by the famous 1902 Clifford
Berryman cartoon which told the story
of President ‘Teddy’ Roosevelt refusing to
shoot a bear cub while out hunting, believed
by some to be the idea behind the creation
of the first teddy bear, this Cheeky version
of the little bear is simply irresistible and a
real must-have for any teddy bear collector.
He is sculpted from the finest alpaca and
features magnets in his hands and head
allowing him to hide away from danger,
whilst a felt luggage tag of surrender hangs
neatly around his neck.

The Merrythought Cheeky Bear is an original design from the
1950s that continues to be one of our most collectable characters. All
our Cheeky Bears are fully jointed and feature the infamous bells in
the ears.
Punkie Bear (Punkinhead) has attracted a loyal following
since Merrythought first launched the design in 1949. All our Punkies
are fully jointed and feature the signature ‘top knot’.
