“We are a community of learners who respect ourselves and others.” ETHEL MILLIKEN SCHOOL Tel: 306-791-8489 4510 Queen Street Regina, SK S4S 6K9 Fax: 306- 751-2109 Email: [email protected] Web: http://ethelmilliken.rbe.sk.ca Administrator’s Corner Spring has arrived and with it a new burst of energy has engulfed Ethel Milliken School. I am not sure if it is the return of warmer weather, a realization that summer holidays are only two short months away, panic that there are only two months of school remaining, or a combination of all three. Whichever theory you use one thing is for sure, the stones at Ethel Milliken School are gathering no moss. The month of May will be a busy one as our students participate in many classroom and school activities. However, the end of the month will not provide a time to relax. June is around the corner and looking ahead it will be just as busy and exciting. On behalf of the students and staff at Ethel Milliken School I would like to take this opportunity to invite our school community to visit as we enjoy this exciting time of learning and activity. The students really appreciate displaying what they have learned and accomplished. Please feel free to volunteer to help with school activities or stop by and see the finished projects and cocurricular activities. If you are spring cleaning and find yourself with lots of books suitable for elementary school students, please drop them off at Milliken. Don’t forget to keep a few for swapping too. We are often short of books and graphic novels for our grades 6 to 8 students so any at this level would also be greatly appreciated. BATTLE OF THE BOOKS RESULTS… For more information or to print off an online application form, visit www.albertpark.ca This was a busy year for our Battle of the Books teams. After a couple of practice games, we competed with each other over many lunch hours. Our top team was Eagle Eye; made up of Olivia Fay, Alexandra Harder, Grace Craig and Kate Dederick. In second place were The Magical Unicorns; made up of Eric Robbins, Rimneet Gansinh, Madison Powers and Ethan Zerr. These two teams competed at Argyle School for the South Inter-school Battle of the Books Competition. Our Eagle Eye team place third and continued on to the final Southeast Battle at Hawrylak School on April 21. We are all really proud of them and their dedication to do their best while having a lot of fun. I found out these books have made their way into a number of parents hands, so maybe we will have to have a parent team next year? A big thank you to our parents for driving and, especially, to Mrs. Harder who drove a group of students to both battles. We are already planning for next year’s Battle of the Books.
