Introduction
For years I bought into high dollar beauty products. I had very oily skin and
felt that I needed these products to keep my skin from breaking out. The
truth is, these products were keeping my skin in a constant roller coaster
condition.
I would use cleansers to remove every bit of oil, then lather on the synthetic
moisturizers in an attempt to replenish my stripped skin.
In 2006, I learned how to make my own soap. I had read that natural soap
cleans your skin without stripping away your body’s natural oils. Natural
soap also contains glycerin and other emollients to nourish and balance the
skin.
I begin using my own soap instead of the pricey store bought products and was
so pleased with the results. My skin looked more vibrant and felt so smooth
and soft.
Over the years, I have found ways to make most all of my own skin care
products. Not only are they more healthy for your skin, you can also save
money by making your own. They also make great gifts.
Simple Beauty contains recipes that I use in creating my own beauty products.
They are simple recipes that promote radiant beauty!

Rose Petal Toning Spray
This is one of the easiest products to make, and so refreshing.

Ingredients
◦ Rose Hydrosol
 Hydrosol, sometimes called flower water, is produced from
steam distilling flowers or other plants.
 Choose the hydrosol you like best or the one that has the
properties your skin needs. For instance, lemon verbena is
lightly stimulating and astringent, where as chamomile is very
calming and soothing.
◦ Witch Hazel

Mix equal parts of hydrosol and witch hazel. Spray or apply with a
cotton ball after washing your face.

◦ 4 oz. Aloe Vera Gel
◦ Rosemary Essential Oil

Peppermint Rosemary Lip Balm




Ingredients
◦ 1 oz. Sweet Almond Oil
◦ ½ oz. Extra Virgin Coconut Oil
◦ ½ oz. Unrefined Cocoa Butter
◦ ¾ oz. Beeswax
◦ 1 teaspoon Honey
◦ 30 drops Peppermint Essential Oil
◦ 15 drops Spearmint Essential Oil
◦ 10 drops Rosemary Essential Oil
Measure the sweet almond oil, coconut oil, cocoa butter, and
beeswax in a double boiler. Let the oils and wax heat for 45 minutes.
This will temper the cocoa butter and help prevent crystallization.
Add in honey and essential oils, stirring until honey is completely
melted. Pour into tubes or containers and let cool.
Yield: 15 tubes
This is my “Go To” lip balm recipe. It has everything I like in a lip balm
– it is silky smooth and it has a refreshing zing to it.

Lavender Bath Salts
Ingredients
◦ 1 cup Dead Sea Salt
◦ ¼ cup Sweet Almond Oil
◦ 30 drop Lavender Essential Oil
 Mix salt and oils in a half pint jar. Sprinkle a few spoonfuls of salt
into a warm bath. Careful though, the sweet almond oil can make
the tub a bit slippery.
 Cut out a cute piece of material and add to the lid and you have a
wonderful gift. You can also substitute other fragrance or essential
oils.

This is another quick and simple bath product that makes
you feel like a queen. It’s not Calgon, but it does take you
away (showing my age here). The lavender is so relaxing. I
use these bath salts in the baby’s bath right before bed. He
comes out so sweet smelling and soft. I just cuddle him and
off to sleep he goes.

Ylang Ylang Lotion Bars

Ingredients
◦ 3 oz. Unrefined Shea Butter
◦ 2 oz. Sweet Almond Oil
◦ 1 oz. Jojoba
◦ 3 oz. Beeswax
◦ Ylang Ylang essential oil

Mix shea butter and beeswax in the top of a double boiler. Heat until
melted. Add in the sweet almond oil, jojoba oil, and the essential oil.

Pour into molds and let harden. Store in a tin or plastic container.

Honey Oatmeal Soap

Ingredients
◦ 26.4 oz. Palm Oil
◦ 26.4 oz. Coconut Oil
◦ 26.4 oz. Olive Oil
◦ 4.4 oz. Shea Butter
◦ 4.4 oz. Castor Oil
◦ 30 oz. Distilled Water
◦ 12.5 oz. Sodium Hydroxide
◦ 2.75 oz. Almond Fragrance Oil
◦ ¼ cup Honey
◦ ½ cup Ground Oatmeal
This yields a 5.5 pound batch of soap. Because this product requires a
knowledge of the necessary procedures used to make soap, I am only including a
list of the ingredients used. If you already know how to make soap, this recipe
should suffice. If not, please check my website for a tutorial on soapmaking
procedures (coming in August 2011).
