RESOLUTION NO. 19-15
A RESOLUTION FINDING THAT
THE STRUCTURE LOCATED AT
LOT FOUR (4) OF BLOCK ELEVEN
(11), ORIGINAL TOWNSHIP, BELLEVILLE, KANSAS, COMMONLY
KNOWN AS 1604 P STREET, BELLEVILLE KANSAS, IS UNSAFE
OR DANGEROUS AND DIRECTING THAT THE STRUCTURE BE
REMOVED AND THE PREMISES
MADE SAFE AND SECURE.
WHEREAS, the enforcing officer
of the City of Belleville, Kansas, did
on the 13th day of April, 2015, file
with the governing body of said City
a statement in writing that a certain
structure, hereinafter described, was
unsafe and dangerous; and,
WHEREAS, the governing body
did by Resolution No. 05-15 dated
the 13th day of April, 2015, fix the
time and place of a hearing at which
the owner, his or her agent, and lienholders, and occupants and all other
parties of interest of such structure
could appear and show cause why
such structure should not be condemned and ordered repaired or demolished, and provided for giving notice thereof as provided by law; and,
WHEREAS, Resolution No. 0515 was published in the official city
paper on the 23rd day of April, 2015,
and a copy of said resolution was
served upon all persons entitled therto as provided by law; and,
WHEREAS, on the 8th day of
June, 2015, the governing body did
conduct the hearing scheduled in
Resolution 05-15 and took evidence
from the following: the enforcing officer on behalf of the city. The following parties in interest failed to appear:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT
RESOLVED BY THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE CITY OF BELLEVILLE, KANSAS, THAT:
1. The governing body hereby
finds that the structure located at:
Lot Four (4) of Block Eleven (11),
Original Townsite of the City of
Belleville, Kansas,
commonly known and referred to as
1604 P Street, Belleville, Kansas, is
unsafe and dangerous and directs
that such structure is to be removed
and the premises made safe and secure.
2. The owner of such structure
is hereby directed to commence
the removal of the property within
30 days from the date of publication of this resolution (not
later that the 25th day of June,
2015) and to have the removal
completed within 90 days of the
date of commencement (not later
than the 25th day of September,
2015). Provided, that upon due
application by the owner and for
good cause shown, the governing body, in its sole discretion,
may grant the owner additional
time to complete the removal of
the property.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED,
that if the owner fails to commence
the repair or removal of the structure
within the time provided herein or
fails to diligently prosecute the same,
the governing body may take such
further action as it deems necessary
to raze and remove the structure
without further notice to the owner or
other parties in interest.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED,
that the City Clerk shall cause this
Resolution to be published once in
the official city paper and mail a copy
to the owners, agents, lienholders,
occupants, and other parties in interest.

Church hosts
retirement event
The Republic United
Methodist Church hosted
a potluck dinner following
church service to honor
the minister and his wife
who are retiring from the
ministry. They have served
the Republic and Webber
Methodist churches for the
past six years.
Following the meal the
Pope’s Peoople choir entertained. The retiring minister
is a member. Masonic Lodge
members from Belleville and
other areas as well as other
people from the area shared
memories of Roger and Jean
Walls’ time here. The couple
will make their home in
Abilene after July 1.

Retired teachers meet
Washington County Retired Teachers and School
Personnel had a luncheon
meeting on June 26 at
the Linn American Legion.
After the Pledge of Allegiance Vernon Mai gave
the prayer. Following the
lunch Mitch Zabokrtsky
led the group in recalling
the history of the schools
and towns of Washington
County during the 1960s.
The group adjourned to
the Linn City Park shelter
house where they shared
memories of their years
working in the schools
of the county. Pauline
Lindhorst announced her
retirement as hostess after
13 years of service to the
group. It was decided to
meet again on June 24,
2016, and to invite fellow
retired teachers and school
personnel to join the group.
David Lickteig volunteered
to be the 2016 host.

Republic women meet
The Republic United
Methodist Women met
June 9 in Fellowship Hall.
Concerns and birthdays of
missionaries in South Korea were addressed before
the prayer.
Jean Walls lead devotions, which included a
quote by Jesus. Selected
scriptures were 1 Corinthians 10:10 and Luke 1:19.
Roll call was answered by
nine members with “natural
ability.” President Connie
Smith thanked those who
helped with the annual
church clean-up on June 6
and for preparing the noon
meal. A thank-you from
Jean Walls for the Mission
Recognition emblem was
shared. The Walls will have
a farewell barbecue in Webber on June 28.
The unit accepted the
City of Republic’s invitation
to conduct the Pie-Go at the
annual Fourth of July picnic in the city park. Plans
for the July 14 outing are
pending.
The program was given
by Janet Weir and was
titled, “Welcoming People of
All Abilities.” The featured
scripture was Ephesians 4
3-7.
Hostess Bonnie Elliott
served frozen fruit salad
with ice cream cookies and
snacks to guests seated
around the refreshment
table complemented by two
bouquets of garden flowers
she raised. A note pad was
at each place setting. Additional guests were Pastor
Roger Walls and Pastor Darrell Herde.
Happy birthday was sung
to Virginia Petersen.

city man, has come home
from his surgery. Dennis
Wilkins, past city man, has
stepped up to fill his job
until he is able to return to
his job.
A fellow Minnesota Region
5 FFA officer from Cottonwood, Minn., was an
overnight guest of Troy and
Christy Newman. Hector,
who later became a state
FFA officer, his wife Heidi,
and children Katelyn, Anna,
Thane and Oscar Matthys,
arrived Sunday evening
and spent Monday visiting
Concordia parks, fishing at
Jewell State Fishing Lake
and then splashing the day
away at Beloit's Chautauqua Water Park before continuing on their road trip
vacation on Tuesday.
