The West Liberty girls track and field team braved
the chilly, windy weather for meets twice last week. They
were at their home meet April 7, and April 10 they were at
Tiffin for the Creek Classic Relays.
"(The Clear Creek-Amana) meet was our highest scoring meet so far this season (with) 53 points," West Liberty
Head Coach Melia Larson said. "Additionally, we had a
few personal records for the season - Mariela Filerio's 2 09 in the shot and Alyssa Schemmel threw 2 -0 .5. In the
discus, Mariela threw 3-0 . Tatum Koenig jumped 1 -00
in the girls long jump. Finally, we also had several girls
trying new events and they gave their all. Samantha Kelley tried her first 4x 00 relay, Emma Martin made her debut at the 400 hurdles and Jenna Giamba also ran her first
400 as the final leg of the Sprint Medley Relay."
At Tiffin, there were two classes participating. West
Liberty came in sixth in Class B.
Koenig's 1 -00 jump in the long jump landed her in
first place. In other field events, Filerio's 3-0 in the discus was good for fourth place. oey Boehme was seventh
with a throw of 74-10. Filerio was sixth and Schemmel
seventh in the shot put. Boehme put the shot 25-05.75.
Reghan McNaul finished the 3000m run in 13 0 . 7,
fifth place. She finished the 00m run in 3 01.23.
In the short-distance races, Koenig was fifth in the
200m dash, finishing in 2 . 7. Kelley finished the race in
3 .14. Belinda Heckman ran the 100m dash in 14.72 and
Giamba finished in 17.93.
Koenig was fourth in the 400m dash with a time of
1 07. 3.
The 4x100 team of Jaida Dalton, McNaul, Heckman
and Koenig placed sixth with a time of 57.7 . The 4x200
team of Breanna Thurness, Dalton, Heckman and Schemmel finished in 2 10.49 for sixth place. Another team,
Boehme, Emma Martin, Kelley and Giamba, finished
in 2 23. 9. The 4x400 team of Schemmel, Dalton, Martin and McNaul finished in 5 1 .53 for seventh place. In
the 4x 00, Schemmel, Martin, Thurness and Kelley finished in 13 23 for sixth place. Kelley, Dalton, Heckman
and Giamba ran the sprint medley in 2 32. 3 for seventh
place.
Martin was seventh in the 400m hurdles with a time
of 1 35.43.
