WE NEED KNOWLEDGE TO IMPROVE THE SITUATION OF NEPALI WOMEN
"Develop the country through skill"
INTRODUCTION:
The Laligurans Women Skill Development Centre (LWSDC) is a non-profit, non-government supported organization registere with
His Majesty's Government in Kaski and with the Social Welfare Council in Kathmandu, Nepal.
LWSDX strives to create opportunities for women who do not have any income and are struggling to survive. By providing handicraft-related skills to these women, LWSDC is preserving traditional skills of Nepal while helping women become self-sufficient and
achieve economic independence. The skills provided by LWSDC will directly benefit the women, their families, and the future of
their children. Presently, thirteen women are being trained by LWSDC. They work in a small factory with very basic conditions. It
is situated Pokhara-6, Dihikopatan, Lakeside on rented building.
BACKGROUND:
Nepal is a landlocked and mountainous country bordering on China and India. It is an ethnically, religiously, and geographically
diverse nation with 80% – 85% of the total population deriving their livelihood from agriculture. One average, Nepali women work
12 hours a day in order to support economic and agriculture activities, compared to the men who work 8 hours
a day Poverty is endemic in Nepal, with 40% of the population well below the poverty line (48% for women).
Lack of access to resources is a fundamental factor for women's greater deprivation. Women have less education,
and fewer health service, credit facilities and productive employment opportunities. In addition, persistent
patriarchal attitude and practices are the norm in Nepal, leaving women
underprivileged, underrepresented and exploited in all spheres of society.
OBJECTIVES:
LWSDC aims to provide handicraft-related skill training to the most needy
and poor women in the Pokhara valley so they can become self sufficient
and valued members of society. The main objectives are given following:
1. Rediscover and preserve traditional Nepali handicrafts.
2. Train women to be self-reliant.
3. Maximize local skills and resources.
4. Develop connections with other groups in the same area.
5. Trade locally and internationally so the program can expand and
benefit more women.
6. Mobilize wasted local resources, labour skill and art extensively.
7. Provide training by empowering women to make self depend and skills.
TARGET GROUP:
LWSDC aims to help women who are most in need in the Pokhara valley, the women come from a variety fo social, economic and
ethnic backgrounds. Many are widowed, divorced, or abused and have trabeled from the rural villages to Pokhara seeking survival.

bags, camera bags, duffels, backpacks, pencil cases, purses, bottle carriers, oven gloves side bags, Itta bag, baby bags and many

NEXT STEPS:
For many women the skills they acquire at LWSDC are their only source of income. But, products need to be sold and distributed
