The origin of non-toxic, negative ion producing Pheylonian©
Beeswax Candles goes back to the earliest of civilizations. This
art of making pure beeswax candles has been passed down
from generation to generation and has always been treasured
and preserved by the Pheylonians. The Pheylonians, meaning
lovable strangers, are an ancient high mountain Carpathian
people who have been the bearers of good
fortune throughout the centuries.

Early in the 1900’s, millions of
Ukrainian Gypsies and
mountain people were
being annihilated for their
lands. Iilah’s Baba
(grandmother) who was
a medicine woman and
elder, struggled to save a
small group of her Pheylonian
clan. The journey of these
ancient people led them from
the Carpathian Mountains to
the European coast and then to
Canada by boat.
Unable to carry many items on the journey, Iilah’s Baba came
to Canada, possessing two ancient Mandalian easter eggs, a jar
of sourdough culture and the remains of a few candles made from
100% pure cappings beeswax.
As a youth, Iilah began learning the art of candle making and natural
healing. Fifty years later, Pheylonian Production Kohr© produces the
largest selection of the finest quality natural beeswax candles in North
America. Every candle is still handmade, one at a time, with care. Each
candle is made with pesticide free, 100% pure cappings beeswax and features
a handmade natural plant fibre wick. Encompassed within each Pheylonian©
Beeswax Candle is the same timeless essense of quality, purity and integrity which
the ancients cherished and scribed, such as:
~ producing negative ion emissions which clean the air
removing dust, pollen, toxins, mold and even viruses.

When we originally created this line of smooth pillars, we wanted
to add a unique type of trimming to decorate the top and bottom of
each candle. We tried several options, but were not happy.
One day, a retired bee farmer came by looking to sell some old
supplies from his father’s days of beekeeping. The boxes were
marked ‘1948’ and were pure bee comb foundation.
This treasury of 100% pure beeswax ‘foundation’ was the
inspiration for the design. To understand the amazing story

These pure beeswax lanterns produce the illusion of a large
candle with nothing more than a mini-lite. One lantern alone
will light a 12’ x 15’ room while releasing a delicate essence of
beeswax and a soft negative ion effect. With modest maintenace
this lantern will last for decades.

Beeswax: Why Burn Beeswax and Not Paraffin?
Cappings beeswax is a pure fuel derived from the nectars and
pollens of plants collected by bees. This incredibly ecological
fuel costs only pennies an hour to burn.
Our Pure Cappings Beeswax Candles burn with a golden
flame and halo. They burn with no smoke with proper wick
trimming and actually clean the air each time you use them;
whereas paraffin burns with a harsh white flame and emits
toxic black soot coating your walls, household furnishings and
curtains, not to mention your lungs and skin.
Several top executives and technical engineers of the
petroleum industry have been buying and using our candles
over the past 40 years. They do not let their families touch
paraffin nor do they allow their family members to burn it in
their homes!
If you do a little research on paraffin, you may be surprised by
what you find. Paraffin starts as a grayish-black sludge which
oozes out of the backside of the petroleum refineries after they
have refined all the fuels, greases and other components out
of the crude oil.
This crud is bleached (creating dioxins), and is processed into
solid paraffin using carcinogenic solidifiers. It is then coloured
with chemical dyes and scented with synthetic essences
creating fluorocarbons when burned. Remember, they
don’t squeeze pure vanilla pods (at $7.00 each) into
those sweet smelling, pretty coloured candles.
Paraffin costs an average of a dollar an hour to burn because
it burns so fast, and often a paraffin candle will burn right
down the middle. Ultimately, you waste up to one-half of most
paraffin candles.

Please note: Just as not all 100% whole wheat bread is made
from 100% whole wheat flour, not all beeswax candles sold on
the market today are 100% Beeswax.
Legally, a candle can contain as little as 10% beeswax (with
the remainder being paraffin) and still be sold as a beeswax
candle. Unfortunately, we are living in a ‘buyer beware’ era.

‘paraffin’? This ‘petroleum by-product’ is commonly used to

Pheylonian© candles burn very well because of the natural properties of pure cappings beeswax
and the ancient techniques we still use in making all of our candles and wicking.
PURE CAPPINGS BEESWAX and our WICKING
Cappings beeswax is the seal of pure wax the bees place over the comb once
they have filled it with honey. This seal is removed by the beekeeper in order
to extract the honey, and this is the only part that we use. We do not use the
comb foundation wax as it is not as clean. Be assured that with our product
you are getting 100% pure beeswax cappings.
The wicking in each of our candles is made from natural plant fibres. This is
the only type of wicking which will withstand the long burning properties of
beeswax when the candle width is 2” or more. Each wick is hand processed
utilizing age old techniques that Iilah learned from his Ukrainian Baba.
With a Pheylonian © Beeswax Candle, you never need to ‘pour off the wax’
or ‘dig for the wick’. The most important factor with our candles is to keep the
wick trimmed to 3/16” or 5mm..
If the wick gets longer than 3/8 inch, your candle will be smoking and burning
with a very large flame, which will melt a wider ‘pool’ of wax in a very short
time. This can result in the ‘pool’ melting through the side of the candle and
leaking out. You then have a 3/4 inch wick that proceeds to melt the wax even
faster, taking you into the experience that we call a ‘Chernoble’, or in other
words, ‘Melt Down’. (This statement is not designed to scare you, simply to
emphasize the importance of trimming the wick.)
The science which makes our candles work is the balance between the
strands in the wick and the diameter of each model of candle.
It is important to maintain the proper wick height as the pool burns down
and the wick gets taller. There are three methods for adjusting the height of
the wick: (1) the primary method on all free standing candles is to follow the
‘hugging’ instructions as illustrated below; (2) trim the wick periodically as the
candle is burning, wiping the debris from the scissors with a damp tissue; (3)
adjust the height of the wick by ‘feeding’ wax from previous candles into the
liquid pool. This adds to the pool, which raises the level and shortens the wick.
If you don’t have any previous candles, you can purchase Pheylonian© Phillin’s
to ‘top up’ or ‘feed’ your candles. Our Candles love to be fed!
Pheylonian© Phillin’s are best used in pillar and orb candles which are 3” or
more in diameter. Temple Lites, Eternal Flames, Reactohrs and Survival Cans
are excellent candles to feed. Do not feed mini-lites, votives, tapers or any
candle with a cotton (white) wick.
Always keep your wicks trimmed to
3/16 inch or 5mm and never leave
a burning candle unattended.

Remember the
‘Inch An Hour’ rule.
A - This Temple Lite Candle has been burning about 1.5 hours. The wick is a
good height with a proper size flame.
The wicks in our candles never get shorter on their own, allowing you to adjust
the wick as needed. This also means that as the wax burns away, the wick
gets taller and the flame becomes larger.
B - The wick on this candle is now too long causing a large flame. If left
unattended, it may cause smoke and could melt past the edge within an hour.
C - Hugging the candle is one of the best ways to shorten the wick. Push the
softened walls of the candle into the pool, which actually raises the level of the
wax pool and shortens the height of the wick .
This technique also widens the edge of the candle walls, ensuring the pool
will not flow over the edge of the candle or leak out any of the crevices in the
sculpted walls.
Always do this with two hands, gently pushing in with both thumbs, using equal
pressure on each side. Fold the edges in gradually, so you do not ‘swamp’ the
flame with the pool and extinguish it.
D - After hugging the candle, the wick is now back to the proper height and the
flame has come back to a nice size which will burn the wax more
efficiently. This same procedure should also be done just prior to
extinguishing the flame, to bring the pool up and shorten the wick
back to its proper restarting height.
Selecting the best diameter of candle for your needs ensures the best economy and efficiency
Many people assume we make our candles in a variety of sizes because we
want to offer lots of choice. Well, that is true but it is only part of the answer.
The primary reason is to provide people with a candle that suits the burning
needs of their candle burning habits and to also provide the best economic
value.
The ‘inch an hour’ rule explanation: Hence a 2” candle is best burned for 1 - 2
hours at a time, a 3” candle for 2 - 4 hours and a 4” candles must be burned
3 - 4 hours minimum. Any of our candles can be burned for longer than the
burning time suggested; however, you gain efficiency when you stick to the
inch an hour rule. Tapers, Mini-Lites and most votives are the exception and
can be used for both short or long periods.
For example, the Temple Lite candles in the photos above are 3.5”. When you
light a TL6 (with the wick trimmed to 3/16” or 5mm), it will take 2 to 2.5 hours
to melt the pool to within 1/4” of the edge.
If this candle is extinguished around the 3 to 3.5 hour mark, you will
have used barely an eighth of an inch of wax. During the initial 2
hour of burn time the flame is basically ‘melting’ the pool of wax and
burning off a minimal volume of wax. It is after the pool is fully melted
that it starts to burn down. This is where the true economy of our
candles comes into play.
If you only burn candles for an hour or two, do not buy a Temple Lite
or Eternal Flame candle as they will not melt out far enough to soften
the sides for hugging. Similarly, an Eternal Flame (4” candles) are
only for people who burn their candles four to six hours or more at a
time.
Despite the fact that Reactohrs are 6.5” wide they are actually a great
candle for a 2-4 hour use. They can be burned longer, but you will
have to attend to them as you would a Temple Lite Candle because
they have 3 wicks.

relighting.
