Invite the Explorium to YOUR classroom! Our fun and educational traveling programs are based around
Kentucky’s core academic standards and incorporate cross-curriculum connections through multiple disciplines.
Each program is sorted by subject and can be tailored to each elementary grade level.

Science:
Water, Water Everywhere
Learn about the importance of water on our planet though a series of engaging activities. Become a water particle and travel
through clouds, oceans, and plants in the Water Cycle Game! Find out how water helps clouds form by making a cloud in a jar!

Fossils Rock
The earth has been around for a really long time! Learn about the changes our planet has gone through and the clues that
have been left behind. Get hands-on as we discuss the classification of rocks and discover how they were formed. Make
your own fossil examples and become a paleontologist in training!

Amazing Arthropods
Using live inhabitants and preserved specimens from our Small World exhibit, let’s investigate the unique characteristics of
arthropods. Understand the differences between arachnids, insects, crustaceans, millopods, and diplopods. Find out how they
survive and the important roles they play in our environment. Get up close and personal with live scorpions and spiders!

Insect Life Cycles
Enjoy a creepy crawly visit from the Explorium’s insect collection! Learn all about the characteristics of insects and understand
the fascinating physical changes different species go through during their lifespan.

It’s Electric
Explore the captivating world of energy, electricity, and magnetism! Learn where our electricity comes from, what safety
practices should be used around electricity, and more. Work in teams to complete exercises involving circuits, electrons, and
charges. The Explorium’s Van de Graaff generator and plasma ball with steal the show with exciting demonstrations to end your
lesson!

Dollars Make Sense
Money is what makes the world’s economy go ‘round. This lesson teaches students how to spend it wisely! Learn the basics of
counting and identifying our U.S. currency, find out where money comes from, and how we get it. Make real life financial
decisions while learning how to budget and save!

“Guessture” Gesture
Draw movements as they happen! Learn how professional artists capture movements through fast-paced gesture drawing.
Students of all ages are sure to enjoy this fun-filled program focused on the elements and principles of design and artistic
expression. Individuals will rotate holding “poses” for 60 seconds while other students quickly sketch out their figure using basic
stick-and-socket drawings. We will share our artwork at the end and use what we have drawn to create whimsical cartoon
strips!

GENERAL:
All prices are for grade levels Pre-K –5th
One 60-minute Presentation: $120.00
Additional Presentations: $90.00 (see discount qualifications below)
Cap number of students per presentation: 30
SURCHARGES



Charge for travel: We charge $.048 per mile outside of Fayette County. (This price mirrors Kentucky state travel
reimbursement charges).
Cancellation Fee: A charge of 50% of the presentation fees are due to The Explorium if all presentations at the same
location on the same day are cancelled less than 7 days prior to the presentation.
Staffing: If extra staffing is provided and not needed, there is a charge of $15. (May happen if school requests multiple
presentations and then ends up having less than said).
POLICIES


The Explorium requires 30 minutes to set up and pack up in the presentation room prior to and after the presentation
time, without students present.
At least one teacher must be present at all times during the presentations.

$90.00 additional presentations if:
 the same lesson is presented more than once on the same day in the same room.
 there is a gap of 15 minutes or less in between presentations.
 NOTE: Travel of more than 60 miles round-trip necessitates multiple presentations
OTHER INFORMATION

Payment is due on or before the day of the presentations. Checks must be made out to The Explorium of Lexington
and include in the memo space “Field Trips To Go”.

Checks can be mailed to The Explorium of Lexington, 440 West Short Street, Lexington KY 40507. Checks may also be
given to an Explorium representative on the day of the presentations.
