Denver Plan 2020
By 2020, 80% of DPS students will attend a high-performing school, measured
by region using the district’s school performance framework.
By 2020, 80% of DPS third-graders will be at or above grade level in reading and
writing, lectura and escritura.
By 2020, the four-year graduation rate for students who start with DPS in ninth
grade will increase to 90%. By 2020, we will double the number of students who
graduate college and career-ready, as measured by the increasing rigor of the
state standard.
By 2015, a task force, including DPS staff, community partners and city agencies
providing services to DPS students, will recommend to the Board of Education a
plan to measure this goal and track progress.
By 2020, the graduation rate for African American and Latino students will
increase by 25 percentage points. Reading and writing proficiency for thirdgrade African American and Latino students will increase by 25 percentage
points.

2020
 Park Hill increases are primarily driven by increasing % of residents choosing to attend zone
schools. The choice-out rate decreases to 20% in 2015 and beyond.
 Stapleton increases are primarily driven by additional residential development. The 9%
choice-out rate for Stapleton is held constant in the future.

Residents Attending
Zone School: 6th Grade
Note that as seat fill rates approach 100%, all zone seats must be utilized, which reduces the
percentage of families that receive one of their preferred choices. 2016 capacity assumes 50
additional seats at McAuliffe.
2017 and beyond assumes 400 seats of capacity per grade at Smiley campus, either from just
McAuliffe or a combination of two middle schools
Summary Capacity and Forecast Findings
Total
Number of
Seats
There will be an adequate number of total seats in the zone until
2017
Quality of
Seats
All seats in the zone are high quality: either SPF blue/green or
are new schools (Denver Discovery and DSST-Conservatory
Green)
Location of
Seats
Only 1 school is located in Park Hill (McAuliffe), with 4 schools
located in Stapleton, 1 of which (DSST-CG) is located north of
I-70, a longer distance from Park Hill
Recommendation for Capacity Levels
Add 50 seats of 6th grade capacity to allow for all families south of I70 to attend a school south of I-70
2016
Option we are currently considering is to expand McAuliffe
enrollment to 325-350 6th grade seats
Add at least 50 more seats of 6th grade capacity to allow for all
families south of I-70 to attend a school south of I-70
2017
Options include, but are not limited to:
 Expand McAuliffe enrollment to roughly 400 seats per grade
 Open new MS program at Smiley, reduce the size of McAuliffe to
200-250 6th grade seats
 Others?
Q&A
Two Options for Additional 2017 Capacity
• Hire a school leader a year from now to
design a new middle school and share the
Smiley facility in Greater Park Hill Stapleton,
beginning in fall 2017
• Expand the current McAuliffe at Smiley from
325-350 seats per grade to 400 per grade
