About GRACE
GRACE is a local charity that supports women living
with gynaecological cancers across Surrey, West Sussex and
Hampshire. Our primary focus is on raising vital awareness
to promote early diagnosis of the diseases, funding desperately
needed research into their causes and treatments and in
providing local hospitals with vital surgical equipment.
GRACE is dedicated to research which will improve the treatment,
recovery, and survival rates of women diagnosed in the future and
are currently involved in several projects including investigation
of chemotherapy resistant ovarian cancers. This work is plugging
a gap for a desperately neglected area of cancer research and
its findings feed into the wider UK cancer network, helping to
influence and shape the diagnosis and treatment of women with
these gynaecological cancers.

Fundraising
This year alone our commitment to improving
the treatment and outcomes for women affected by
gynaecological cancers saw us raise funds in excess of
£50,000 for an ultrasound scanner for our brachytherapy
team at St Lukes Hospice in Guildford.
As a form of internal radiotherapy, image guided
equipment such as this allows very precise delivery of
radiation to the tumour, resulting in higher cure rates
with lower side effects. It is an essential component of the
curative treatment of cervical cancer, which accounts for
9% of all female cancer deaths.
Approximately 245 women with gynaecological cancers
are treated at St Lukes each year. Gynaecological cancers
have the second highest incidence of any female cancer
in the UK.
