Concept
The largest growing household demographic among millennials is cohabitation.
One out of every eight homes in the U.S. are now inhabited by unrelated roommates. This is an
increase of over 5 percent from 2000 to 2010 and as generation Y pioneers this new territory there
are a unique set of challenges that must be addressed.
Not always are roommate’s friends or people whom you chose, and this can cause problems. Even
among people who have a positive relationship with each other, money issues and responsibilities
can sometimes become an uncomfortable subject.
Meiter is designed to facilitate a positive living experience by promoting organization, awareness
and accountability within the context of a Generation Y household. Meiter is targeted towards the
18-26 demographic, and is a planning tool as opposed to crisis solving mechanism.
How does it work?
Meiter works as a stand-alone app or across platforms to create an all-encompassing experience.
Meiter for iPad acts as the hub for household information for overviewing finances and
relationships. Individual roommates receive house notifications, reminders, as well as complete
tasks on their personal devices and the aggregate of all the household data is stored on the iPad
database.
The platform has the potential to act as a third party moderator for household interactions. With
preliminary setup, users can determine house rules, values for tasks (Karma Points), randomize
household duties, and set frequency of reminders for accountability.
We understand that not everyone in a household has an
iPad, but there may be times when various members of the
house would like to view what’s happening on Meiter.
With the ability to make payments and handle finances,
we have created a secure login screen for individual users.
With a simple PIN entry, Meiter allows users to access
personalized information in a secure environment.
This allows the app to present the user with with information
relevant to their interactions with the household.
Profile View
Upon logging in the user is presented data compiled from
other housemates.
Karma and Finances are two of the main focuses of Meiter
and they are presented clearly to allow for comparison
between roommates.
For larger households, simply swipe left to view more.
Good Vibes.
Meiter bases roommate interactions around karma. Perform
your household duties on-time and receive karma. Forget to
take out the trash, lose karma. Simple as that.
The latest karma update is displayed prominently and a
more detailed feed of past interactions can be viewed by
scrolling through the feed displayed on the right side.
The “Total Karma Breakdown” is the visualization of the total
number of karma points distributed as well as the running
total, this allows for a quick overview of the state of the
household.
By clicking “Karma Settings” the house can determine
karma values in relation to activities. This allows each
household using Meiter to establish their own value sets and
personalize their experience.
Giving Karma is a great way to establish positive
reinforcement.
Keep Track.
Some of the trickiest issues to navigate in a living situation
revolve around money.
Bills and rent are often split multiple ways, groceries are
purchased, and it can be hard to keep track of who owes
what.
This issue is resolved by utilizing an in-app payment system
to transfer money between roommates using Meiters secure
network. This system sorts out the issue of who-owes-what
and allows each member of the household to clearly see
where they stand.
To view your previous transactions, simply scroll through the
feed displayed on the right side.
Plan On It!
Meiter utilizes a calendar to keep track of events happening
in the household.
School schedules can be entered, quiet hours established,
band practice scheduled, and parties planned, all through
the Meiter calendar function.
Push notifications can also be utilized to remind the entire
household of events coming up, keeping everyone in the
loop.
What to do?
Keep up with what needs to be done around the house with
Meiters built in task manager.
As a house select weekly responsibilities and Meiter will
randomize what needs to be done weekly for minimal
dispute.
Tasks done on time increase karma points, late tasks remove
karma. This way, you can see who’s been keeping up.
Meiter will also select miscellaneous tasks that need to be
done for extra karma points.
