LETTER FROM the Director
Dear Fairmount Friends,
W
hat a winter! We certainly have had our share of
weather out here in Novelty, but that’s coming from a
west sider … Back when I was in art school in my college
years, I never imagined I would be director of a place like
Fairmount. Since I started here last summer, I have come to know many of our
returning families as well as some new faces to the center, and I get so excited
when I get to see our students evolving right before my eyes week after week.
Hopefully you have all seen the latest art gallery installation by artist
Dairoll Medrano that will be on display and available for purchase in our
studios through the first week of March. If you haven’t seen it yet, come by!
His work is dynamic and uniquely “Cleveland”. Then, on March 14th, join
us for our next installation and opening, a collaborative effort with Lakeland
Community College showcasing phenomenal art by women, entitled “SHE”.
We are so excited to be part of this 8th annual gallery tour and are thrilled to
present some exceptionally talented women artists to the community.
We are blessed to be seeing so many new students and families! Thanks to
all of you, our preschool age programs, dance, and private music lessons have
really grown in number of enrolled students during this winter session. We love
to see so many, (young and old alike), pursuing their varied musical, dance,
art and theater educations with our fantastically gifted instructors. Your word of
mouth letting people know about everything Fairmount has to offer has grown
our family so much, and your praise is the best advertising we could ask for!
We are really looking forward to our spring dance performance on
May 9th at the Chagrin Performing Arts Center. It will be the culmination
of both winter and spring sessions, and we have seen already some of the
beautiful choreography and all the hard work paying off.
We have also begun planning the 39th annual Fairmount Arts Exhibition at
the end of May, entitled Fairmount Arts Fest 2015. If you’ve never experienced
it, this is the year. This juried art show will be judged by some talented local
experts, and the Best of Show recipient will walk away with a $5,000 cash
prize! Who do you know that has always wanted to enter their work in an art
show? Have them email us at [email protected] for more information
about how to submit their work.
Lastly, we want to hear from you! What kinds of programs have you
always wanted us to offer here at Fairmount? Have you been yearning to take
a digital photography class? What about yoga? You tell us what you would
like to take next at our center, and we will dig in and find the instructor to teach
that class for you. Email us at [email protected] with your suggestions.
We are looking forward to another great spring session and are working
tirelessly to develop new and exciting programming for everyone!
Sincerely,
Jessica Manka
Business Director

Isadora Llanos Churby
Isadora Llanos Churby is quite
a force on the dance floor! In
Mr. Moodie’s Kinderdance
class on Friday mornings,
3 year old Isadora takes
her dancing very seriously.
A student at Notre Dame
Preschool where her favorite
subject is reading, Isadora
learned her love of music and
dance from her older cousin,
Andrea. It is impossible to
miss the glow from Isadora
when she and her classmates
chassé across the dance
floor! When asked what
she wants to be when she
grows up, Isadora exclaimed
“a baseball player!”, but
before she joins the majors,
we hope Isadora continues to brighten up our studio!.

Meredith Guggenheim
and the Guggenheim family
When Meredith Guggenheim
started dancing with Fairmount
Dance Theatre in second
grade, I am sure that neither
she, nor her family members
realized what a huge part
of the Fairmount Family they
all would become. Meredith
has since blossomed from
the second grade novice to
distinguished level VI. In the
past 10 years of dance,
Meredith worked her way
through our Fairmount
Dance Theatre’s school
of dance, and joined
the Fairmount Dance Theatre Company in 2014. As
she graduates high school this spring, she plans to attend
The Ohio State University and study medicine. We are so
proud of the amazing woman she has become!

(Boys): white t-shirt, black tights, black ballet shoes

Meredith’s family is also heavily involved with Fairmount.
Her mom, Tracie, sat on the Advisory Board, and
volunteered her time at countless shows each Spring and
Fall. Dad, Jim has volunteered his time and donated to our
facility, and her brother, Andrew, also a patron of the arts,
plays the cello. The Guggenheims and their outstanding
commitment will surely be missed as Meredith’s journey
takes her on to college, but they will always be part of our
Fairmount Family!

Music
MUSIC Director
DAVID FULLER
Our private lessons are designed
for both beginners and experienced
music lovers. Discover how music can
become a unique and irreplaceable
part of your life – observe a lesson
with your child. Make music education
a priority for yourself, your child and
for humanity. According to a study by College Board in
2010, students who took music lessons for four years or
more scored an average of 100 points higher on the SATs
than students who did not play a musical instrument. In
addition, studying music improves recall and retention of
verbal information, advances math achievement and boosts
reading and language arts skills. According to research
by Mitchell Gaynor M.D. (Sounds of Healing), music also
has therapeutic physical effects, including reduced anxiety,

Featured Alumni
Meghan Offtermatt
Sometimes in the day-to-day
hustle and bustle of the Center,
we forget just how many
people are touched by our
lovely place. Recently, a young
woman named Meghan came
in to donate some dance shoes.
When our staff asked how she
had heard of Fairmount, she
remarked that she had taken
classes here as a child, and
has since gone on to do some
remarkable things. Since her days as a little girl taking voice
lessons with Dave Fuller, Meghan has moved on to receive
her Bachelor of Fine Arts from NYU, and perform with the
NYU CAS Theatre, NYU Tisch New Studio on Broadway,
and the Walt Disney Theatre on the Disney Dream Main
Stage. “I am so grateful to have had Fairmount as a creative
and artistic outlet growing up, and I am so glad that it is still
thriving today because of people like you. The work you do
is so important, and I just want to say thank you for that.”
Meghan is an example of our vision here where we seek
to nourish the artist within, and we are honored to have
people like her among our ranks as alumni.
