R&F HANDMADE PAINTS began manufacturing professional
artists paints and providing artist-focused technical
support in 1988. Today, R&F distinguishes itself by
continuing to craft the highest quality paint in small,
carefully controlled batches where the eye and skill of the
paintmaker are key. R&F’s distinct product line includes
two types of paint: our classic wax-based encaustic
paint and luscious, linseed oil based Pigment Sticks®.
In 1995 the innovative R&F Workshop Program expanded
our unique approach to education. Ongoing workshop
programming and demonstration events engage artists
by exploring groundbreaking methods of working with
encaustics and Pigment Sticks®. In addition to paint and
workshops, R&F oﬀers sets, tools, and display options

The heat gun is a tool that many encaustic painters cannot do without.
It is used for heating and fusing encaustic paints without touching the surface.
This gun features a 1" (2.5cm) nozzle opening, dual fan speed, as well as an
adjustable temperature dial for better control. Heat gun nozzles are
available in Fan and Reduction.

The R&F heated handle, temperature regulator and screw-on tips allow the
artist to fuse and manipulate the encaustic surface with ease.

The temperature regulator is a necessary component to keep the heated tools

Designed after the tools that the first practitioners of encaustic used
in ancient times, they can be used with or without heat to create a more
reﬁned surface. These tools are made of high carbon steel and are
expertly ﬁnished.
ENCAUSTIC BRUSHES
R&F’s encaustic brushes meet the unique demands of encaustic painting. These
high quality brushes are made from natural hair, rather than synthetic ﬁbers to
prevent melting and scorching on heated surfaces.
The full line includes 27 varieties of natural chunking bristle brushes, including
bright, ﬂat, ﬁlbert, short ﬁlbert, round and fan shapes. Three additional sizes of ﬂat
brushes are available in a custom blend of softer natural hair. These are ideal for
working with thinner viscosities of color and creating smooth enamel-like ﬁnishes.

R&F Handmade Paints began to develop a

artists to fundamental encaustic painting

who took them are now among the most popular

course offerings are now available in a variety of formats and skill levels at

R&F’s Encaustic Demonstration Events are designed
