Marlen story and management
A thirty-year-old experience of hand-made skill has given Marlen a prestigeful position in
the national and international context in the field of writing instruments. Exclusive collections,
totally “made in Italy”, have obtained wide success among many collectors and enthusiasts
from all over the world: from Harrods in London to the most famous windows of New York,
Paris, Saudi Arabia, Japan, Australia and China.
Marlen company was established in 1982 by Mario Esposito, the Administrator, and
Antonio Esposito, the Design Director. The fashionable and exclusive pens are the result
of their consolidated working experience in the sector. They have developed their ideas with
success, and that, together with their particular professionnality, have allowed to realize their
exciting project. More than twenty years of innovative designs have reflected the cultural,
historical, technological and artistic movements of yesterday and today. Their success is due
to the determination, devotion and ability of people, products and organisation.
Mario Esposito, the High Manager, has promoted the company’s international marketing,
caring the public relations, carrying out, with great perspicacy, his commercial abilities, and
adapting a strategy that, day by day, improves and extends the company distribution more and
more, making Marlen writing instruments a privilege for anybody who have got it.
Antonio Esposito is the Design Director, who gives life to the wonderful and handworked
objects, writing masterpieces. During his long and flattering creative activity he has always
inspired to the «Capitello Corinzio», which has supported Old Greece’s archs for centuries,
giving birth to the original “Marlen Clip”.
The two founders-managers are helped by able and qualified employees, who carry
out all duties commended with passion and a harmonious team-working. They carry out their
artistic targets with meticulous precision, and they exploit their professional formation to reach
their most important goal: a prestige and unexceptionable, elevated quality product.
Marlen’s targets are a more and more growing National and International development,
going on with the realisation of high quality projects, and exclusive collections, realized with
special handmade tecniques, which distinguish it in the international market.
QUALITY
«The pleasure of writing and… reading during the time», is the slogan that, since the
company’s birth, has been synthesizing Marlen’s unmistakable peculiarities and its beautiful
realizations are the clear evidence not only of a twenty years long research of a high quality
product, but also of the creative ability of these instruments, which make the art of writing
extremely agreeable.
The specialistic sector, thug very selective, has recognised Marlen as a supremacy
reality, until the award ROBB REPORT 2003, achieved thanks to the realisation of CADRAN
SOLAIRE, a sculpture-jewel in form of sundial
developed on the shaft of the pen, which has
inaugurated the tecnical-scientific, devoted
to the time measurement; this group of pens’
collections has pursued with the ideation of
STYLO LUNAIRE and STYLO ASTROLOGIE,
and finally has found its acme with the watch
NORTHMATIC, company’s glad beginning in

ELEGANCE
Today Marlen’s name is able to offer high
quality and vanward technique pens, which
inspire to architectonic beauties, literature
and poetry genius, historical events, in
addition to the models devoted to the greatest
personalities of artistic and cultural world.
All that makes Marlen pens perfect from a
technical point of view, in addition to their
the “G8” pen

In 2001 Marlen created the official pen of G8 of Genoa. In 2005 a pen was dedicated to
the European Parliament. In October 2007 Marlen realized the official pen of the “Peace
Summit” of Naples, with the cooperation of St.Egidio Community, giving as gift for the
occasion 15 samples of the special edition PEACEFUL WORLD to the political and religious
autorithies present at the summit, including His Holiness Pope Benedetto XVI. In June 2009
Marlen realized a special collection with the Naples Teatro Festival sponsoring this very
important national and international review. In July 2009, Marlen obtained the authorisation
to produce the official pen of Italian Arma dei Carabinieri. The year 2010 begins with the
realization of other very important projects, like the official pen inizia of Italian Croce Rossa
e the official collection of Aeronautica Militare, in addition to the limited edition for the Arma
dei Carabinieri, inspired to the very famous battle of Pastrengo of 1848, including only 162
pieces for the Rollerball and only 162 pieces for the Gold Fountain; the year 2011 has been
introducted by the presentation of a project devoted to the 150° anniversary of Italy Unity,

pen crafting in Marlen’s laboratories
with 2 collections named ITALIA UNITA 1861
and RISORGIMENTO, both authorized by
the Italian Ministers Counseil’s Presidence,
Technical Mission Unity. Other as important
projects are now projecting, so to be realized
in the next year 2012.
Further, Marlen is inspired to its local
history, for example with the creation of the
collection ANTICA ATELLA, devoted to the
origins of Marlen’s territory; but it has inspired
also to other important old civilisations, that
have given birth to the collections MAYA
CALENDAR, AZTLAN, ITHACA, EGIZIA,
ANTICA ROMA, MASCHERE ATELLANE,
ROME SEVEN KINGS, MOAI.
Fascinating writing instruments, like the
artworks they are inspired to, are THE KISS,
inspired to the famous Klimt’s painting,
LEONARDO, dedicated to the painting
“Autoritratto” by Leonardo da Vinci, both
above authorise by the museums where
they are lodged, and BOTTICELLI VENERE,
devoted to the “Venere” by Botticelli.
All that makes Marlen distinctive, perfect
and able to capture the elegance of the flux
of time.

personalities: for example a Maccus pen,
inspired to the mask of Atella theatre and so
tribute to the terittorial origins of the company,
was gives to the Nobel awarded Dario Fo, and
also the famous actor Arnoldo Foà received a
Journal pen for his 90° birthday, during the
show anchored by Maurizio Costanzo
Also some political personalities, like
the presidents Carlo Azeglio Ciampi and
Giorgio Napolitano have been honored with
a Marlen writing instrument, and the same for
other personalities, like for example the Nobel
price Rita Levi Montalcini, among them who
have honoured our company, using one of
our pens.
MARLEN pens, writing protagonists also
in the show and cinema world after the choice
of A Japanese cinematographic producer to
use them in a film, and also if we think to a
similar request by the production of the event
film IL CODICE DA VINCI.
Each design remarks the historical attitude of our Artisans, while making their precious art.
Marlen’s writing instruments are all handmade: other used particular techniques are the 3D
working, the button charging system, the lateral charging system with key or coin, and a recent
patent registered for the positioning of the cap on the shaft through the rotational system of
the shaft.

The Pens
Marlen pens’ collections are all highly distinctive, technically perfect and able to capture
time and history elegantly. Marlen pens are available in different models: rollerball, ballpoint
and fountain with nibs of different materials and gradations (fine, medium and broad).

This is the symbol-collection of Marlen,
devoted to Geneve, city of ideas, of
Rousseau and Voltaire – the two great
philosophers of Illuminism – and city of
scientists, philosophers, naturalists and
mathematicians.
Marlen HTF (High Technology Formula)
Génève has been created with a modern and
high-tech design, using Italian resins and a
smart combination of precious materials. The
mid of the cap, in bombed black resin, gives
attention to Marlen brand (that is a stylised
nib) and the clip, in silver, is designed by
incisions, finishing with an elegant closing
disk. This pen, fashionable and modern, is a
real must-have for the collectionists. Available
in the models fountain, rollerball and ballpoint
is realized in many types, among them also a
“Luxury” version in limited edition precioused
by gold and diamonds.

A gift to one of the greatest artists ever lived and to his famous piece which represents the Venus on a conch while,
after passing the sea, is reaching the land. On the left there are two feathered genius , a man and a woman, who
are the winds who float Venus in her trip towards the earth.
On the sea-land a pretty girl, identified in the Hour of Spring or in one of the three Graces, is ready to bind the dea’s
body with a coak of flowers.

This collection is devoted to the origin place of Marlen, hearth of a territory that, in ancient times, constitutes the city

PALAZZO REALE
The pen has been realized for the 60th anniversary of the Caserta provincia and is devoted to the Real Palace of
Caserta, realized by the famous Italian architect Vanvitelli, and was the house of Italian kings form 1752 to 1919.
The pen reproduced the Real Palace of Caserta engraved on the barrell and, in its mountain version with key
charging system, presents a key with the official emblem of Caserta.

Northmatic, a collection piece
Northmatic White and Northmatic black
The Watches
Northmatic is a prestigious mechanical
watch of marinare vocation which links the
handful art of Marlen Italy with the technological
avanguarde of the Elvetic watch school. In the
STA-I version, name that derives from Sailing
Training Association Italia, is in metal, in the
classic round form, with a double chrone,
with wristlet in black leather and personalised
boucle. The chrone on 14 h controls a notch
inside. The black dial, with white inscriptions
and the Flags’ Wind has a very particular
graphics, rich of scales, like that one in
yellow gold, to head towards the Sun for the
authomatic identification of the North.
Albert I, a “museum” watch
It’s a particular model devoted to the
memory of Alberto I di Monaco, who reigned
on Monaco Principate until 1922, remembered
as one of the most important explorators and
recognized among the most valued sea’s
scientists. Hes remembered as a perfect expert
of oceans, and to his name the building of
Ocenographic Museum of Monaco is linked.

The Watches
The design of this unisex chronometer certified C.O.S.C. is classic and elegant.
Produced in Switzerland, it has soft and temperate forms, but it is also particularly
precious: the case, of about 40 gr, is in 18 kt gold in the rose, yellow and white versions, or
silver 925, while the wristlet is in cocodrile with personalized gold 18 kt booklet. The chrone is
in 18 kt gold while the zephyr glass is another protection which guarantees an impermeability
of 3atm or 30mt. The dial, of a very easy readability, presents the indication of hours which are
inserted in a “circle” inside the indication of minutes: a feature lie4d to the pratical importante
of the MINUTES’ role.

brothership, Linea Marlen from Sant’Arpino, a
village near Caserta, has created an important
fountain pen in gold, silver, resin, celluloid and
yellow ivory, white and red, that alternate in the
barrel, the Vatican coat of arms and religious
details like the clip of the cap that represents
the Mosé stick.
