DAVID B. FALK COLLEGE OF SPORT AND HUMAN DYNAMICS
SCHOOL OF SOCIAL WORK
Dear Prospective Grant Recipient:
Syracuse University’s School of Social Work is pleased to offer four (4) Health Resources and
Services Administration (HRSA) grant opportunities as a part of the Upstate New York Mental and
Behavioral Health Education Consortium (UNY-MBHEC). This unique opportunity is available to
advance standing students only, and provides students with a Certificate in Clinical Practice with
Medically Underserved Communities and an annual stipend of $13,500.
The program aims to increase the number of social workers who pursue clinical work with high
need and high demand populations. Awardees will receive enriched education and training in
evidence-based interventions, trauma recovery, cultural competence and interprofessional practice.
The Syracuse University School of Social Work has partnered with the Veterans Administration
to support the four HRSA-funded field placements. All field placements will occur at the VA, therefore
potential awardees will go through a three-step review process.
1. The School of Social Work will review application materials and refine the pool of
candidates.
2. Selected Candidates will meet with the HRSA Internship Placement Coordinator for a
preliminary interview. From this selection the School will recommend candidates to
the VA.
3. The Veterans Administration will interview recommended students and make final
determinations on selected candidates.
Interested students should complete and send the enclosed application, with a statement of
interest and resume to: Adrienne Renfroe, 440 Sims Hall, Syracuse University, Syracuse, NY 13244.
Preference will be given to students who matriculate into the School by March 16, 2015.
Sincerely,
Carrie Smith, DSW, ACSW
