May 2015 Since July, 1995 Vol.20 Issue #5 Hoofbeats . . . . . News from the Clubhouse by Marty Clegg, Secy/Treas The regular monthly meeting of the Falls City Mustang Club was called to order by President Steve Merritt on 15 April 2015. Sec/Treasurer Marty Clegg gave an update of the club finances after passing out copies of the treasurer’s report to everyone. Frank Hayden, Early Model VP, spoke about the advantages of insuring your classic Mustang through a company that specializes in classics, such as Heacock, Hagerty, etc. Frank also informed us all that Marti Reports are now available on Mustangs up to model year 2007. Brenda Clegg, Membership Chairperson, announced new members Tom and Laura Cooper of Jeffersonville who own a ’73 Mustang convertible. Frank Hayden, MCA Regional Director, spoke about the MCA Grand National Show in Columbus, Ohio on Labor Day weekend. Supposedly, the show field is full and some FCMC members are on a waiting list to get into the show. Therese’ Hayden, Wellness Liason, told of cards sent to several FCMC members. Steve spoke about the recent Mustang Birthday Bash at Jim O’Neal Ford; the weather was quite nice which contributed to nearly one hundred Mustangs on site, including several ’15 models. Steve also announced several upcoming shows and events to include the Huntingburg, In car show this Saturday, April 18, the Frankfort Pony Car Roundup on April 25, the DCMC Mustang Birthday Bash on April 26 at Bill Collins Ford, Hoosier Mustang Club Mustang Birthday Bash at Bob Poyner Ford in Seymour on May 2, the Orleans, In parade also on May 2, and finally the Crusade for Children car show on June 6. Frank will get additional info on the Crusade for Children show and pass on to everyone. The annual FCMC/DMC road rally will be held May 17; details will be forthcoming soon. Steve asked Bill Gibson to setup the annual club outing at the Jeffersonville Sportsdrome Speedway on July 11. In regard to quarterly donations, Pat Gibson sent to Marty the info for the two donations voted on last meeting. On the annual April by-law review, no one requested any changes or additions to the by-laws, so a motion and vote was made to keep them the same another year. Discussion then turned to the annual June car show. Phil Schieber brought several proposed designs for the dash plaques. The proposals were passed around for all to view then a vote was taken for the most favorite. The Jeffersonville Meijer store has donated a $350 gift card to be used towards the purchase of a TV for the car show raffle. With the gift card, two televisions were purchased along with a number of door prizes. Raffle tickets for the two TV’s were distributed to members. Janet Grant asked about starting judging as soon as participants were ready rather than waiting until a predetermined time as before. Frank and Steve agreed that would be beneficial to participants as well as helping the judges complete their jobs earlier. Dining prior to the May meeting will be a Chick Fil-A on State Street in New Albany. The $25 cash drawing was won by Bill Gibson. Being no further business, the meeting was adjourned. Due to the absence of several board members, no board of directors meeting was held this month. www.fallscitymustangclub.com Inside this issue: Members Special Events ……………...…...2 Officers/Staff/ MCA Judges………………….. 2 FCMC Mustang’s 51st Birthday Bash…….…..….........…..3 A Call for June Show Judges……..….........…..4 Frankfort Pony Car Roundup…….…..….........……..5 Derby City Mustang Club's Mustang's 51st Birthday Bash………….5 May Events..………..….6 FCMC’s April Cruisein..………….………..……6 NEW MEETING LOCATION Padgett, Inc., 901 E. 4th Street, New Albany, IN Wednesday, May 20, 7:00 p.m. Dinner at 5:30 p.m. Chick-Fil-A State St. New Albany If anyone goes to a car show and takes pictures, please send to Brenda or myself. June Car Show Granted it is early in the new year, but the FCMC is moving full speed ahead with plans for our annual car show at Jim O'Neal Ford on June 20. A few things you can do as a member to help with the success of the show would be to seek out potential sponsors. We can always use monetary sponsors, but something a bit easier to get is asking businesses to sponsor a trophy. A single trophy sponsorship is $25 and the trophy will have the sponsors name on it plus be announced by the DJ at the car show throughout the day. Potential sponsors could be real estate companies, tire dealerships, doctor/dentist offices, contractors, insurance offices, body shops, florists, etc.; anywhere you do business and maybe know the owners or managers. Another item always needed for the car show are gift certificates to use as door prizes. These could come from any of the many local restaurants, bakeries, groceries, department stores such as Walmart, Lowes, Home Depot, Kroger, etc. Businesses such as Auto Zone, O'Reilly's, Advanced Auto and NAPA are a good source for door prize items like car care products as well as gift certificates. Sponsor request letters have been sent to a number of national auto related companies seeking monetary sponsorships. Anything you can do as a member to support our annual car show will be greatly appreciated. Sponsor request forms are now available, either at the monthly meetings or can be sent to you via e-mail. Thank you www.fallscitymustangclub.com Vol. 20, Issue 5, Page 2 FCMC’s 51st Birthday Bash FCMC celebrated Mustang's 51st birthday on Saturday April 11th at Jim O'Neal Ford in Sellersburg IN. For the first time in years we had perfect weather, warm sunshine. We had over 100 vehicles attending this year's celebration. Participants were treated to free registration, free hot dogs, chips and drinks, door prizes, great music and just all around fun. Looking forward to the 52nd celebration. www.fallscitymustangclub.com Volume 20, Issue 5, Page 3 A CALL FOR JUNE SHOW JUDGES Dear FCMC Members: Our June 20th show is coming up fast & we need judges. Last year we had a great group of both experienced & first time judges. Everyone did a terrific job. If you would like to judge at this year’s show please send your name & contact information to Frank Hayden at this email address: [email protected] Are you an experienced judge? Great. We would love to have your help. Not an experienced judge & want to try judging? That is great too. We will be pairing experienced judges with first time & less experienced judges to help show anyone who wants to judge how to do it. You will have an experienced judge teaching you & backing you up as you judge & learn how to judge. In order to help us set up assigned judging teams we are requiring all show judges to register in advance. Names need to be submitted by Friday May judges meeting at 9:00 on the day of the show. 22. There will be a required We have made some improvements for this year’s judging to try to make life a little easier for the judges. We will definitely be having at least 2 judging teams for the car exteriors this year & we are moving judging tires & wheels to the trunk section to try to lighten the load for the exterior judges. We will also be announcing early in the show (like 8:30-9:00) that anyone ready to be judged should put out their cards. We will begin judging any cars with cards on the windshield at 9:30 or 10:00 --- a 2 hour head start. Our hope is that we can get more of the judging done before the show field gets too hot. None of these changes are earth shattering but that is the reason we are setting up teams in advance & the reason for the 9:00 judges meeting day of show. We want to do everything we can to support our judges & make the show as enjoyable an experience as possible not only for our participants but for our judging staff as well. So, if you can help us, sign up by May 22nd & come out June 20th to lend a hand. Thanks.
