Welcome to SNHU!
We are excited to have you join the SNHU family and
we want to make your transition to the university
as easy as possible. We have created a great online
resource for you called the Navigator, which includes
all the information you will need between now and
your first day at SNHU. The online Navigator will
also let you know about some important deadlines
that you will need to pay attention to. We urge you
to take some time to review this information and
share it with your family. You can be confident
that our faculty, administration and staff will
support you fully to help make your educational
experience one that will have a lasting positive
impact well beyond your college years. If you have
questions, please do not hesitate to call any member

Understanding SNHU Account Access
Accessing Online Navigator
Your username and password allow single sign-on
access to register for Summer Orientation, as well as
many other online services at SNHU. These include
your University e-mail account, our academic portal
known as Blackboard, the online course registration
services, and our bill payment system. All of these
services, including the registration area for Summer
Orientation for you and your parents/guardians, can
be accessed through mySNHU by navigating to my.snhu.
edu/orientation.
Accessing the Navigator is simple, just visit
my.snhu.edu/orientation.
As a security precaution you should log into your
mySNHU account and change your password. This will
help protect your privacy and the use of your account.
Understanding mySNHU
Your e-mail address/SNHU username is:
Your password is your birthday in the following format: MMDDYYYY
For example, if your birthday is August 25, 1992, your
password would be 08251992.
If you have problems logging into your account, you
can contact the SNHU Help Desk at [email protected] or by
calling 603.626.9000.
You and your family will have 24/7 access to more
details on the steps you need to take as well as a
timeline and list of deadlines. Make sure to use both
this booklet along with our website. Don’t hesitate to
e-mail us at [email protected] if you get stuck or have a
quick question.
mySNHU is a web portal that allows students to
access information from Southern New Hampshire
University’s administrative database. mySNHU is used
regularly by both students and faculty and provides
a number of essential online services. mySNHU is
used to search, register for and manage your courses,
change your address or phone number, check your
grades, view your bill and much more.
Please visit my.snhu.edu/orientation to familiarize yourself
with the self-service section of the site. This is where
you will access your SNHU email and where you will
complete the important steps on the following pages.
Parents & Guardians
We have designed a condensed version of the online
Navigator for you to view from any computer so
you can help your son/daughter chart their course
before arriving in September. Just navigate to
http://family.snhu.edu/family. If you have problems logging into
your account, you can contact the SNHU Technology
Help Desk by calling 1.855.877.9919.

The first step toward creating your course schedule
is to complete the required Math and English SelfPlacement Activities, which are located on mySNHU.
These activities take approximately 30 minutes and
should be completed in one sitting.
Once you have completed the placement activities,
you will access the Course Schedule Inventory (CSI)
in your SNHU email inbox on mySNHU. The CSI is
a course preference tool; please allow 15 minutes
to complete. Using information from the selfplacement activities, your responses on the CSI and
available courses, an advisor will register you for your
fall classes.
You will receive your fall schedule during one of the
June Orientation sessions – at which time you will
be given the opportunity to discuss related questions
and change requests with an advisor, if desired.
Students who are unable to attend will be notified
about their fall course schedule in July or on a rolling
basis throughout the summer.
Complete Your Housing Profile (if applicable)
Our campus houses 2,024 students in a variety
of housing options that include residence halls,
apartments, and townhouses. First year students
generally reside in Residence Halls that offer single,
double, triple, and quad accommodations.
Each area has a live-in professional staff member
(Residence Director) who supervises the student
Resident Assistant staff, coordinates hall
programming for the development of community, acts
as a liaison for offices that provide support services
for the resident students and provides referral to
students in need of personal assistance. Residents
are provided the opportunity to interact with other
residents through activities and programs presented
by the Residence Life Staff.
To complete your personal profile and request a
roommate, you will need to go to my.snhu.edu/orientation
then go to the MyHousing Link in the middle of the
Orientation page. Next, follow the step-by-step
instructions on the portal.

SNHU Summer Bridge Programs

Sign up for Summer Orientation
Sign up for Summer Orientation at my.snhu.edu/orientation.
If you have not done so already, continue on to the
Course Schedule Inventory (CSI) and English and Math
Placement Activities.
The summer Orientation dates are June 17, 19 and 22
for First Year Students, also, this year we will have
an overnight orientation on June 24 and 25. First year
students in the Honors and Culinary programs are
scheduled to attend June 26. Summer orientation for
Transfer Students, except Culinary, including First
year Students transferring with more than 12 credits,
will attend June 15.
All new University College students are charged an
Orientation Fee, which covers the cost of both the
Summer Orientation and First Days programs. This
is a comprehensive fee that is non-refundable. This
covers the expenses associated with these programs
for both students and family members.
JumpStart ’15
Want to get a “Jumpstart” to your SNHU Experience?
Join us for JumpStart ’15! JumpStart is a prematriculation program run through The Learning
Center, designed for first-year students to help them
make a satisfactory transition to SNHU and enhance
their chances for academic success. It includes
workshops on academic preparedness, tours, and
other informational activities, social activities, a oneweek early arrival to campus with early check in for
Fall housing, and interaction with a wide variety of
campus resources (peers, faculty, staff, advisors). And
it’s FUN!
JumpStart ’15 will run from Monday, August 24
through Friday, August 28, and enrollment is limited
to the first 50 accepted applicants. The cost is $450
and this fee covers all workshops, room and board,
social activities, and instructional costs. Note: Because
this is a pre-college program, the program fee is
not covered by financial aid. Questions? Contact

Take 5
At the Center for Community Engaged Learning
we think you’ll be surprised at how much change
you can make in just 5 days. Join us for 5 days of
new friends while you spend 5 days learning about
your new community and serving with local nonprofit organizations. We’ll choose a small group of
incoming first-year students to come to campus 5
days early from Monday, August 24 through Friday,
August 28, to learn, connect, and serve. The cost of
this program is $250.

Complete Your Medical Records
Complete Your Financial Aid Award
SNHU cares about you and wants to help keep you
healthy and happy. All students must complete and
submit medical information to Health Services.
One Stop is the place for all of your financial aid,
billing and administrative student needs. One Stop
partners with students and families to identify,
educate, and award the best resources available so
you can focus on experiencing a dynamic and exciting
SNHU education.
• Please visit my.snhu.edu/orientation to read about medical
record requirements for all students. Once you click
“medical records” you will be brought to a secure
system that will allow you to input your medical
history, print necessary forms and upload recent
physical and immunization history. This must be
completed by move-in. Download form no later
than August 1; complete and return by August 15.
• You must complete your Health Insurance
Waiver form before August 1st if you have private
insurance. Health insurance waiver forms are available through One Stop
and are returned to One Stop.
SNHU Health Services is licensed by the NH
Department of Health and Human Services. Our Nurse
Practitioner and Nurses offer medical evaluation
and treatment for common acute problems (e.g.,
cold/flu, sprains and strains, minor injuries, cuts,
burns, urinary tract infections, rashes, and sexual
health concerns). In addition, we provide personal
health counseling, education regarding preventative
health behaviors and symptom management,
as well as assistance with university-sponsored
insurance claims processing. Students are referred to
community medical services as needed.
Your financial aid award is determined on the basis
of the information you or your parents provided on
the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
A financial aid award consists of gift aid (such as
scholarships and grants, which do not need to be
repaid) and self-help aid (such as federal student
loans and federal work study which must be borrowed
or earned).
The Award Guide available in the online Navigator is
a tool to assist you in understanding your financial
aid award. Throughout this website, you will find

Loan website at studentloans.gov to finalize your
Direct Stafford Loans. The following two steps must
be completed by August 1st:
• Sign the Direct Loan Master Promissory Note
• Complete the online Entrance Loan Counseling
If you have been offered a Perkins Loan, you will
receive an email to your SNHU email address after
August 1st with the steps needed to complete
and electronically sign the Perkins Loan Master
Promissory Note.

Understand How to Pay Your Bill
Register with NCAA Eligibility Center
The online Navigator provides you with helpful
information on paying your bill and/or enrolling in
a payment arrangement with Tuition Management
Systems (TMS), as well as information on Financial
Aid, tuition, fees, medical insurance, housing rates,
and dining plans.
Do you enjoy sports? You can make that part of your
SNHU experience as well. SNHU is an NCAA Division
II institution, so if you want to play for an SNHU team,
you must register with the NCAA Eligibility Center.
Please note that payment of the net balance due
must be received by the due dates shown below.

Connect to Technology
If you are unable to access your SNHU email with your
email address and password, then please contact the
SNHU Technology Help Desk. You may verify that you
know this information by logging in to mySNHU at
my.snhu.edu.
Up-To-Date Anti-Virus
Anti-virus is important as it scans your computer to
ensure that viruses are identified and quarantined/
removed before they cause further damage. Please
make sure you have the latest Virus Definitions file.
Feel free to contact us with any questions.
SNHU requires both Macs and PCs to have an
anti-virus program installed and up-to-date.
Students who reside on campus can be provided with
free anti-virus software from Symantec by going to
webapps.snhu.edu/Symantec.
Up-To-Date Operating System
In Microsoft Windows, the Windows/Microsoft Update
web site (windowsupdate.microsoft.com) will scan your computer
and offer the latest updates for download. In Mac OS
X, the Software Update program from the Apple Menu
will provide the latest updates to all of Mac OS X and
Apple Software. The latest updates to your Operating
System are required to access the SNHU Network.

Living on campus is a great way to get involved, make
friends, and develop your independence; however, it
can also be a nerve-wracking experience. The Office of
Residence Life prides itself on being your home-awayfrom-home and has developed some great housing
options, as well as informational, online platforms, to
ensure that your transition is effortless.
By visiting the Residence Life page, also known as
MyHousing, on the my.snhu portal, you’ll gain access to
information about what makes each residence area
unique. All housing areas are supplied with basic
furniture needs, access to laundry facilities, and
lockable entries. Because of these universal features,
the selection process is based on your personal
preferences on location and special amenities. You
must factor in current availability, too, so early
registration is encouraged!
If you’re looking for special, themed housing, or a
residential learning community, we have an option
for that, too! Details and applications for our Wellness
floor are accessible by visiting the MyHousing link
through the Orientation portal.
One of the Office of Residence Life’s missions is to
make a difference, and students at SNHU are often
making a difference outside of the classroom while
increasing their learning experiences. In 2014,
students on campus attended 2,061 programs on the
topics of academics, healthy living skills, life skills,
and diversity. There were a total of 17,931 participants
at these events. In 2014, our Resident Assistant staff,
comprised of 77 upper-class student leaders held an
average GPA of 3.45. Students who are living in our
residence halls are making a difference in and out of
the classroom!
We strive to customize your living experience as much
as possible. To ensure that every student’s voice is
heard we developed the MyHousing interface. By
creating an account, you’ll be guided through setting
up a profile, getting connected with other students of
similar interests, as well as being one step closer to
finalizing your living space for the year. Once you’ve
established all of these points, you’ll also be able to
finalize your meal plan option.

SNHU Student Employment and Work-Study
Penmen Cash
The SNHU student employment program is developed
to prepare students for “life after graduation” by
providing part-time employment opportunities
that give students the chance to gain valuable work
experience, whether related to your course of study or
not, and that encourage community service.
Penmen Cash is a place for
students to manage their
campus card account, which
is used for various dining
locations, the campus book
store, vending machines, and
laundry on campus. Students are able to put money
on their card via the web or by using the Penmen Cash
app on their smartphone. In addition to managing
their cash with this service they have access to
valuable information, such as their account balance,
spending history, and they can also report a lost or
stolen card at any time; day or night.
Many Federal Work-Study positions are available
on-campus as well as in the greater Manchester
community. If you were offered Federal Work-Study
as part of your financial aid package, you can apply for
a work-study position. Federal Work-Study positions
are not guaranteed; you must apply and be hired for
an open position.
The university also has a limited number of
university-paid positions. Any student regardless
of financial need can apply for a university-paid
position.

Manchester Area Information
How to Get There
Manchester is one of the largest and most dynamic
cities in northern New England. With a population of
just over 100,000, Manchester combines small-town
charm with a lively cultural scene.
Bus Service
We have a city bus that comes directly to our campus.
Go listen to music. We’re home to two orchestras,
an opera company, and dozens of nightclubs. Go
shopping. Stores here range from upscale boutiques to
funky thrift stores—and there’s no sales tax. Go out
to eat. Downtown Manchester boasts more than 70
restaurants.
Go cheer for a local sports team. We’re home to the
Manchester Monarchs hockey team and the Fisher
Cats baseball team. Go fishing, go for a hike, or go
skiing. Manchester has it all.

Family Connections
The official website for the SNHU Penmen Athletic

Commuter Resources
If you’ve decided not to live on campus and will be
commuting to SNHU, there are still many ways for you
to get connected, get involved, and have a fulfilling
and vibrant experience as a SNHU student. Commuter
Services, which is housed within the Office of Student
Involvement, is available as a resource to help you
connect, answer questions you have, and be sure you
have a great experience at SNHU.

Visit the Commuter Services page on mySNHU.edu to find a
listing of resources available to you. There are lockers
available in the Student Center for students to hold
their belongings between classes, and the Wellness
Center, housed within the Student Center, is available
to commuter students as well. Specific meal plans are
offered for commuters who want to take advantage of
the many dining options on campus.
Planned by Commuter Assistants, the Office of
Student Involvement runs events each month
that happen during the day as a way to connect
commuters. And as an online resource, the SNHU
Commuters page on Facebook is a great way to reach
out, interact with other commuters, and learn about
commuter programs.
Parking Decals
All SNHU students are required to purchase a parking
decal if they plan to park on campus. These decals are
ordered online at snhu.thepermitstore.com. To order a decal,
you will need your SNHU student ID number. This will
need to be entered at the time the decal is ordered so
your student account can be charged accordingly. You
will be billed by SNHU for this charge in the month
following the online order. At the time of purchase,
you will also be asked to add vehicle information
and to enter the mailing address for delivery of the
parking decal. You will need this information handy to
register for the decal.
All students can begin ordering decals for 2015-16
online on Monday, August 3, 2015. We are not yet
sure if there will be a cap placed on the number of

DeColfmacker Veteran’s Lounge
Office of Diversity Initiatives
Located in Room 113 of the Robert A. Freese Student
Center, the DeColfmacker Veteran’s Lounge is your
place on campus to connect with other student
veterans, or to be connected to information and
experts on the services, support, and benefits that
you are entitled to. The lounge has room to study
and socialize with other student veterans, and
features a television, movie library, game system,
and complimentary coffee and soda. To learn more

The President’s Commission for Lesbian, Gay,
Bisexual, Transgender and Queer Advocacy is
dedicated to the promotion of a campus climate
defined by equality, civility and respect. The
commission strives to ensure a safe, positive

Robert A. Freese Student Center
The Robert A. Freese Student Center houses the
Campus Book Store, Penmen Place, Copies Plus,
Concierge Desk, Interfaith Prayer Room, and Club
Suite. Also located in this building are offices for the
Dean of Students, Student Center Operations, Office
of Student Involvement, Campus Ministry, Veteran’s
Services, and Diversity Initiatives, Wellness Center,
and LGBTQ support services. There is also meeting/
programming space which includes The Last Chapter
Pub, the Corcoran Conference Room, and small
conference rooms. There are student organization
offices in the building, which include the Student
Government Association, Coordinators of Activities
& Programming Events (CAPE), Inter-Greek Council,
Beloved Community, LGBTQ Office, and Radio SNHU.
Many students pick up their mail and attend student
events, and hangout in this central location on
campus.
Relax and Eat in the Dining Center
The Dining Center has offerings ranging from great
international dishes at the Euro to burger options at
the Mill City Grill. In addition, La Trattoria offers flat
bread pizzas, quesadillas, and paninis. Getting a wrap
or sub is never a problem at the Ultimate Deli, and
Global Cuisine, featuring a Mongolian Grill to shake
things up. The Salad Toss is there for those salad bar
lovers and for those in a hurry you can swing by the
Express Zone for an on-the-go meal or snack. The
Dining Center has so many great features. Whether
it’s the food, banquet facilities, atmosphere, or a quick
cup of coffee, we look forward to serving you and
sharing in the excitement.

The Involvement Fair is held in the fall and spring
at SNHU. This is a great opportunity to find a club or
organization that interests you, or a place to volunteer.
There will be more than 100 clubs and organizations
from SNHU and the local community to visit and
learn about. Representatives will be available to
answer questions. Examples of the clubs and types of
organizations that will be on hand include academic,
community service, intramurals and athletic clubs,
fraternities and sororities and media groups.
First Days
At the beginning of the fall semester at Southern New
Hampshire University we welcome all new students to
campus. This is called First Days, which begins with the
Sunday check-in for Resident and Commuter Students.
First Days promises to be a fun and exciting way to
connect with new friends, gain more knowledge about
the institution, and just have a great time experiencing
your new community.
Highlights during the program will be the Target
Shopping Event on Sunday night, meeting your
orientation groups, listening to guest speakers,
learning about the expectations of being a SNHUdent,
participating in the New Student Convocation, and
finishing off the week with a “Drive-in Movie”
on Larkin Field.More details can be found at

Homecoming Weekend

Penmen Pride
The Penmen Pride Program is a Student Government
Association initiative that encourages and rewards
students for attending campus events. Throughout
each semester there are certain events that are
classified as “Penmen Pride” events. At these events,
students get their IDs swiped by our Penmen Pride
scanners. Each event is worth one, two, or three
points. Twice a semester there are Double Point
Weeks, which double the point value for every event
you attend. At the end of each semester, student’s
points are totaled for the Prize Giveaway. The prize
is determined by the amount of points accumulated,
and awarded based on a tiered system. There are
three tiers, and prizes are awarded based on the tier
you fall into. We reward students with a variety of
cool prizes, the more a student earns the better the
prize is. The student with the most points at the end
of the semester will be given one grand prize and their
name will go on a plaque which is displayed in the
Student Center.
LATE NIGHT
BREAKFAST
Late Night Breakfast is a SNHU
Tradition held the Wednesday
before finals each semester.
The dining center is open from
10:00pm to 12:00am for FREE
breakfast for all students. In
addition to breakfast, there
will also be activities such as
free chair massages, photo
novelties, giveaways, and
music to help fuel students
during a busy and stressful
finals week. Great food and fun
activities!
Participants can check their points, view standings—
including the Top Ten—and see the schedule of

The SNHU campus has a lot to offer with dozens of
club, athletic, and university events each week. The
Penmen Pride program rewards students just for
having fun!
