Welcome to the Fargo Air Museum’s 7th annual Celebrity
Dinner & Auction! Each year, a dedicated group of
volunteers and local celebrities come together to produce
the region’s most enjoyable and unique fundraising event.
Thank you to all who make this evening possible.
This year, we have chosen a theme that highlights our
North American B-25 bomber. The B-25 and the air crews
that flew them played significant roles in Allied victories
throughout World War II. It was the aircraft that Lieutenant
Colonel James “Jimmy” Doolittle and the Doolittle Raiders
made famous by deploying sixteen B-25 bombers from the
aircraft carrier USS Hornet on April 18, 1942 and making
the first offensive strike on the Japanese homeland. 73 years
later, only two of the original eighty crew members that flew
that historical mission are alive today.
The Fargo Air Museum is incredibly fortunate to have
received a B-25 as a gift from Gerry & Cindy Beck of
Wahpeton, North Dakota. The donation of the aircraft
originally took place in 2006, but only recently, with the
opening of the newly constructed Beck-Odegaard Wing,
do we have the opportunity to put it on display.

of the Phase II hangar. We are now asking for your continued
support in raising funds for Phase III, the final phase and
the completion of the Fargo Air Museum. This remaining
museum construction project will be an impressive atrium
type entrance building that will connect the two display
hangars and also include museum offices, gift shop, library,
educational theater, conference facilities and classrooms.

museum founders dreamed of completing so many years
ago with the important mission to educate and inspire the

The B-25
The B-25 medium bomber was one of America’s most
famous airplanes of World War II.
It first came to national prominence when Lieutenant
Colonel James Doolittle used modified B-25 bombers
to conduct the first air strikes against the Japanese home
islands. Launching 16 aircraft from the USS Hornet on
April 18, 1942 and striking targets in Tokyo, Yokohama,
Kobe, Osaka, Nagoya and Yokosuka, the Doolittle
Raiders demonstrated that Japan itself was vulnerable
to American air attack. This unique air attack mission
served as retaliation for the Japanese attack on Pearl
Harbor and provided an important boost to U.S. morale.
Subsequently, the B-25 saw duty in every combat
theater and was also flown by Dutch, British, Chinese,
Russian and Australian forces. Although initially intended
for level bombing from medium altitudes, it was used
extensively in the Pacific Theater of War for bombing
Japanese military forces from treetop level, and for
strafing and skip bombing enemy naval shipping.
Built by North American Aviation, the B-25 first flew on
August 19, 1940 and by the end of the war, a total of
9,816 were produced.
