The Far-West Heritage Trail

The Far-West Heritage Trail
What to experience?
For those with a sense of adventure, there is still much to explore in the Farwest of Nepal, a region that is as much cultural as it is natural. This remote region, still untouched by tourism, offers many wildlife experiences. It is a perfect
destination for adventure seekers.
The Far-west Heritage trail connects three jewels of the region: Khaptad National Park, the spiritual Badi Malika area, and the unique wetland area of Ramaroshan. For centuries, dwellers of the ancient kingdom of Doti relied on this
trail for their sacred journey to Badi Malika Temple and Baijanath Temple.
Even to this day, the holy sites are epitomes of Hindu religion, and attract worshippers from across the country as well as from India.

DAY 10: Chankili— Badi Malika
Today, we will reach our destination, Badi Malika (4,219 m), one of the major temples in Nepal. On
the way, we will have a great view of the Himalayan range. The temple of Badi Malika is dedicated to
Goddess Bhagawati, who had arrived here, forever leaving behind her previous dwelling. She had
passed through Tribeni, and finally settled in Badi Malika.
There are a lot of legends about the Badi Malika Temple. According to one such legend, a low-caste
farmer once reached the temple spot to collect fire wood. He felt so hungry that he asked Goddess
Bhagawati for some meat and bread. The goddess gave him what he asked for. However, there was so
much food that he could not finish eating everything by himself. So he decided to give a shout-out to
his family members so they could come and partake of the meal. Since his house happened to be far
away from the spot, his family members could not hear his yelling and nobody came. The angered
farmer blurted a request to the goddess to kill everyone in his house. The goddess granted this deadly
wish too. When he arrived home carrying all the food with him, he found all his relatives dead. He got
angry and went back to the temple. The goddess closed the doors of the temple and escaped. It is said
that the imprint of the blow that the angry person had given to the door of the temple can still be seen.

names of two beautiful plateaus ‘Rama' and 'Roshan'. Two neighboring wetlands Rama and Roshan are located
at the altitude of 2,500 m and a distance of half an hour by foot from each other. Another story tells us about God
