L8. Save the Stone Piers!
As part of the next phase of returning Craftsman Farms
to its original beauty, a detailed restoration plan has been
developed to rebuild the piers to their Stickley-era
appearance. Storms have already badly damaged the
already deteriorating piers, and now water makes it way
between the joints with every rainfall. Time is of the
essence to save these piers and maintain the authenticity
of Craftsman Farms. The historical accuracy of using
the stones that were dug on the
property more than 100 years ago
and placing them exactly as they
were when Gustav Stickley lived
there will maintain the treasured
authenticity of Craftsman Farms.
Tonight, we seek to raise $9,000,
the cost of saving one pier.
Goal: $9,000
SILENT AUCTION
S1. Unique Opportunity to Visit Arts & Crafts and
Frank Lloyd Wright Sites
in Sunny Florida
Enjoy this unique two day
experience for two in
Lakeland, Florida - a
personalized private “Behind
the Scenes” guided tour of
the Frank Lloyd Wright designed buildings at Florida
Southern College, a private tour led by a community
historian of the Lake Morton Bungalow neighborhood and
an overnight stay at the historic Terrace Hotel.
The 12 buildings in the West Campus, called the “Child of
the Sun,” constitute the largest single site of Wright’s
buildings! The hallmark of the campus is the Annie
Pfeiffer Chapel, constructed from 1939-41 and considered
to be a true expression of Wright’s work. When finished at
the end of 2013, a Usonian home, designed as a faculty
residence in the 1940’s (but never built), will be part of the
new visitor complex on campus.
After your campus tour, enjoy lunch and then embark on a
walking tour of the historic Lake Morton Bungalow
neighborhood. Developed as Lakeland’s first significant
suburb, most of the houses were built during the Florida
Boom between 1920-26. The neighborhood, which has
changed little and maintains a high degree of architectural
integrity and historical elements, was featured in Bungalow
Magazine, Spring 2011.
Finally step back in time and pamper yourself in the
luxurious surroundings of the Terrace Hotel, overlooking
Lake Mirror. You will be charmed by its classic good looks
and quiet beauty. At its opening in 1924, the Terrace Hotel
was hailed as one of Florida’s finest new year-round hotels
– a novel concept at the time. Restored in 1998, the hotel, a
member of Historic Hotels of America and Preferred
Boutique Hotels, offers guests the finest amenities.
After a very full day, you will be ready to relax and enjoy
an elegant Dinner for Two in the hotel’s Terrace Grille.
And then to end the perfect day, you can retreat to your
two-room luxury King Bedroom suite overlooking the lake
(based on availability). If you have time - and energy –
continue exploring the area or nearby Orlando or Tampa.
The offer is valid January 1, 2014 through December 31,

by Tzadi Turrou is created in the

consuming and requires more handwork than other
techniques. Enjoy owning this special Arts & Crafts
