1. Take a few minutes and share how you happened to be first
drawn to
attending church or even drawn to a living relationship
with God?

2. Mark 15:21 says that Simon was just a guy coming in from another
area and probably went over to see what the commotion was. He
just “happened” to be there. What do you think his thoughts were of
the event he was seeing? What questions did he have? What was he
feeling?

3. Greg’s first point states that internalized emotions often impede
our Vantage Point. What does he mean by that? Why do you think
that confession is a part of the plan of salvation? Romans 10:9-13,
James 5:16. What is the benefit of expressing outwardly our inward
emotions?

4. It has been said many times, “Life isn’t fair.” Simon was forced to
carry a cross. He just wanted to be a bystander and let the day’s
events pass him by. Would you consider yourself a cross carrier or a
bystander in the work of the local church? What do the scriptures
Matthew 10:38, Matthew 16:24, Mark 10:21, Luke 9:23 mean to you?

5. The cross (life events) we are forced to carry sometimes nearly
destroys us and/or our faith in people or faith in God. Why do you
think God allows us to go through the difficult issues in our life?

6. It is interesting that in Mark 15:21, it is mentioned that Simon is the
father of Alexander and Rufus. Read Romans 16:13. Rufus is
mentioned again as a man chosen in the Lord. What do you think
happened to Simon on the day he carried the cross that would have
affected Rufus in the way it did? Fathers, have you allowed Christ to
affect you in the same way that Simon was affected?

7. Greg’s last point states that spending time……... What does it
mean to spend time? How, in your busy world, can you spend time
in the presence of Jesus.

8. We know more than we do. Can you spend 5 minutes per day this
week praying for whatever cross you are carrying and asking Jesus
to allow you to see your cross through His eyes?
