Flanders Field in Belgium, best known for the Red Poppy, is also

Ama –cha, meaning sweet tea, is a tisane made from

In late 1888 in Arles in the south
of France he was staying with
his friend, Paul Gauguin. The
sunflowers were originally
intended as decorations to adorn
Gauguin’s room in the “Yellow
House” that they were renting, but
have now become synonymous
with Van Gogh’s name. A
haughty plant, it is the tallest in
the garden. One of the favorite
names for this plant is the Italian
“Girasole” because the flowers
really do turn their heads to follow
the sun’s daily course.

in the rubble weeks after the
9/11 attacks with snapped
roots and a blackened trunk.
It was taken to the Arthur Ross
Nursery in Van Cortlandt Park
in The Bronx and nursed back
to health. It was 8 feet tall at
the time of the attacks and
now stands 35 feet tall.
It was replanted at the site on
12/22/2010. The tree
symbolizes the city and
country’s resilience.
