Want to Attend?
It’s as easy as 1-2-3!
Step 1:
Look through the booklet and pick parties that you would like your child(ren) or
you to attend. Make sure that you are free on the date of each party. Circle the
parties so you don’t forget!
Step 2:
Visit the Friends of PreSchool Family∗ Fun Party table on Fun Day, October
27th, to sign up. All sign-ups are first come, first served. There are many spots
for each party, but we anticipate that these parties will fill up quickly so make
sure you come by early!
Please pay for your parties on Fun Day. Payments may be made by cash or
check, made out to Friends of PreSchool Family.
Step 3:
Mark your parties on your home calendar. The hosts of the parties that you
sign up for will be in touch with you by phone or e-mail to remind you of the
party. Get ready to have fun!

Fun Parties for Adults
Board Game Marathon
Have you ever wanted to learn Settlers of Catan, the board game the Wall Street Journal calls
“the new golf” and the Washington Post hails as “the board game of our time”? Or perhaps you
are already a pro and are looking for more gaming buddies. We are hosting a strategy board
game marathon at our home on Saturday November 17th. We will set up several gaming tables,
get various games going and offer “free coaching” on how to how transform yourself into a
strategy board game geek! The games offered include but are not restricted to: Bonanza,
Dominion, Settlers of Catan, Traders of Genoa, etc. We will provide drinks and snacks (and
order pizza, if the gaming goes on into the evening).

Holiday Cookie Exchange
Do you like to bake? Join us for a holiday cookie exchange. Just bake two dozen cookies from
one of your favorite recipes and bring them in a tin or other container. The cookies will be
displayed (we will provide the plates for the display) until the end of the party. Enjoy a festive
afternoon of wine and hors d'oeuvres. At the end of the party you will fill your empty container
with two dozen assorted cookies to take home.

Read Between the Wines
Love to read and chat about books? Looking for a great read for the new year? Come and join
us for a leisurely afternoon chatting with new friends and sharing some beloved books. Each
guest will bring one wrapped (new or used) book that he/she has read and would like to
recommend and pass on to another reader. We will open the books one by one and the
“bringer” will talk about the book and share with the group why they loved it. Each guest will
leave with new read, and a new "recommended reading" list. With wine and light refreshments
served, it will be an afternoon to imagine yourself as part of a Parisian literary salon.

Pinball and Poker
Calling all DADS! (or all moms who want to treat their fellas to a stress free and safe night out).
Come Bro-out with Greg and Marc. Marc has a garage full of your favorite pinball machines all
set to free-play. Greg has poker chips, a bottle opener, and the vegas odds. It goes together like
peanut butter and chocolate. We'll take care of everything. Greg will organize the hold 'em
tourney starting promptly at 8:00. Don't know how to play, don't worry. We'll teach you. Not
into poker? Stay for pinball, video games, or watch Die Hard on a sixty inch screen eating warm
pizza, cold beverages, and a handful of doritos with some cool buddies. Make the final table, be
the last man standing and win valuable prizes!!!!

Women’s Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Self Defense Class
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu promotes the concept that a smaller, weaker person can successfully defend against a
bigger, stronger assailant by using leverage and proper technique. This class will be fun, low key and will
focus on techniques every women should know! Please wear comfortable clothes and be prepared to
partner with another person in the class or bring a friend. We will cover a selection of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
and self defense basics (working from standing positions and on the ground) as well as a few take-home
tricks to practice on your significant other.

Photography Lesson
Do you want to take better pictures? Have a fancy camera that you wish you knew how to use?
We'll meet at the Stanford campus to talk about some photography basics and practice taking
pictures, including portraits and candids. You'll learn how to use whatever camera you have,
whether it's a small point & shoot or a big DSLR, to take better pictures of your family and
travels.

Regional Indian Cooking – Brunch Ideas from
Hyderabad, India
Learn to make some Indian brunch dishes from the South Indian city of Hyderabad that you will
never see on a typical Indian restaurant menu! The menu will showcase a variety of brunch
options including eggs, some meat, vegetables and grains/lentils. The menu will draw from the
cuisine of Hyderabad – a city in South India famous for its rich cuisine and culture. You will learn
about some regional differences in Indian cooking and Hyderabad’s unique contributions to
Indian cuisine and culture. We will cook the food together and eat our creations for brunch. Fun
Indian beverages will be served. We will also talk about key spices used in Indian cooking and
explain how these are combined and used. You will get to take home some of these spices and
a recipe booklet.

join us for brunch and a chance to socialize.

Have you ever been to Opal’z Zoaps in Palo Alto? If not, you’ve been missing out! Come create your
own special design of handmade soap! Guests will have a great time, and leave with 4 of their very
own, personalized, homemade pure vegetable glycerin soaps. Using their own soap while bathing
only makes our kids want to wash up more, and soap also makes a nice gift for your kids to give to

Fire House Tour
Calling all Junior Firefighters! Does the sight of a big, red fire truck make your child smile? Bring
your children and join us for a tour of Menlo Park's Fire Station #1 and see where our local fire
fighters live and work. Come and see a fire truck up close, and maybe even ring the bell!
We will meet at Menlo Park Fire Station #1 for a brief tour of the fire house, see some fire
trucks and also learn about fire prevention and safety. We'll end the tour with some take home
treats!

Kite Flying
Let's go fly a Kite!
Join us at Mountain View's Shoreline Kite Park for a morning of family fun. Run in the field, feel
the wind in your face and check out the rainbow of kites. You bring your kite and we'll have a
fun kite craft along with a treat to eat.

Donkeys and Donuts
Come meet the Shrek-famous Barron Park Donkeys up close and personal. The donkeys will be
out of their paddock and roaming the green field of Bol Park along with their donkey handler.
We'll provide brunch-like refreshments, donuts, and coffee. Parents, come and catch up with
PSF friends old and new, and let the kids play and explore the rural setting of Bol Park,
complete with steps to Matadero creek. There will be donkey-themed arts and crafts and other
games for the kids, too.

French Petit-Dejeuner (Breakfast) and Playdate
Party
Come eat, play and voila! We will have a delicious buffet of coffee, orange juice, croissants, crepes,
baguette with butter and jam, fruits, etc. I will print out recipes for the crepes in French with little
drawings so that the kids can do them at home with their parents. I will bring children’s French books for
whoever is interested in looking at them.

Tie-Dye Party
Come and enjoy an afternoon of tie-dying with Lorraine Kostka and Grace Zhao. We provide
rubber bands, strings, dyes and chemicals. You bring pre-washed 100% cotton or rayon items to
tie-dye. Drinks and snacks provided. Ages 4 and up recommended for tie-dying, but younger
kids can play while their families tie-dye.

Hike and Beach Picnic
Like to hike? Want to discover a new beach that's secluded from view and visited frequently by
seals?
Join us for an easy two mile loop hike out to beautiful Old Landing Cove. This trail is flat and
easy to negotiate for preschoolers and jog strollers, but provides spectacular views of the coast
and its sea life. We should see plenty of bird life and basking seals. We'll stop at secluded Old
Landing Cove beach to play and picnic. Hosts will provide cookies and fruit. Please make sure to
bring drinks and any other food you'll require. The walk can be blustery. Please bring warm
clothes. Parts of the trail run along the cliff tops so each child participant needs to be
accompanied by a supervising adult.
Bathrooms are available at the start and end of the walk. There is free parking on the road
outside the park and plentiful parking inside the park, but please remember cash for the state
park fee.
Date: Sunday, June 2, 2013
Time: We'll meet at 10:30am by the toilet block in the day use car park. We'll head out onto the
trail promptly at 10:40am. We expect to return to the carpark around 1:00pm.
Place: Wilder Ranch State Park.

Family Camping Trip
Grab your sleeping bags and tents and join us for a night (or two) in the great outdoors! There
will be plenty of time to play in the woods, hike, socialize, sing songs by the campfire and have
fun! This is a great opportunity to camp with your child(ren), whether it’s your first time or your
10th! We will organize potluck meals for dinners on Friday/Saturday nights (including s’mores
by the campfire or BBQ) and breakfasts on Saturday/Sunday mornings.
For those who are more experienced campers or those who desire additional time to explore &
hike in Huddart Park, we are adding the option to stay an additional night this year.
(When signing up on Fun Day, be sure to specify if you would like to camp for one or both
nights. If camping with us just one night, let us know if you will arrive for Friday or Saturday
night.)
