Jurying Standards
1. The Chemung Valley History Museum is hosting the exhibit Handmade, Homemade: Crafting
in Chemung County. Chemung County has long been home to craftspeople. In the days before
mass production crafting was a necessity. Today crafting is done more as a hobby. Necessity or
hobby, the purpose of crafting has always been the same: to make everyday objects beautiful.
Handmade, Homemade showcases crafters’ handiwork including needlecrafts, carpentry and
scrapbooking. The Handmade, Homemade Craft Show and Sale will serve as the opening event
for the exhibit.
2. The Handmade, Homemade Craft Show and Sale is an educational event, therefore, we ask all
exhibitors to try to demonstrate the making of their product to the public.
3. All work displayed for the sale must be of the craftsperson’s work, executed by the exhibitor.
Work must be original and completely finished. Work should demonstrate skill and mastery of
the medium. No imports, kits, items from kits, food items, items made using commercial
patterns, items made with endangered species, embellished items, tee shirts, or sweats.
4. The jury’s decisions will be based on creativity, workmanship, continuity of work, educational
value of demonstration and overall appearance of display.
5. An impartial, knowledgeable team of jurors will consider each applicant’s work. Decisions
will be final. The jury will view only submitted applications and images. Please do not send
additional photographs or resumes.
