Do you believe that gaining knowledge
about the beliefs of others can augment
one's own faith as well as lessening one's
fears and lack of awareness regarding
others? With that in mind, I would like for
you to know that our library has, in
addition to several works about Judaism,
Islam, and Catholicism, copies of The
Book of Mormon, The Teaching of
Buddha by Bukkyo Dendo Kyokai, and the
Qur'an (Koran). I hope that your love of
learning will lead you to our library.
Thank you
Dear Church Family,
Thank you so much for the lovely plant.
Your cards, calls, food and prayers during
my father-in-law’s illness and death have
meant so much to me. Also, your kindness
to our family during my daddy’s surgery
in January and your patience with me
during my “meltdowns” this past year
have been appreciated. My church family
is my life. I am so grateful to God that I
have you in my world. I love you all dearly
and you have helped me so much,
especially this past year with my in-laws,
parents and my dear husband. Love, Sally
Franks & family.
Dear First Christian Church,
Thank you so much for remembering the
families of Safeplace with your recent
contribution. Your support is changing
and saving lives of the families served by
Safeplace. Thank You, Safeplace.

Please help us to provide a hot meal for
those in need. With the children out of
school, we will have a larger group to
serve. We need 14 smiling faces to work.
We are also asking for donations of the
large size cans of baked beans (most
groceries have a section where they offer
oversized cans) and 9x13 cakes. Any
donations toward the rest of the meal will
be appreciated. Donated cakes and beans
should be at First Presbyterian by 11:00.
Our first shift of workers (3) needs to
arrive at 10:00. Our second shift should
arrive at 11:00. Please prayerfully
consider our mission. Sign-up sheets are
on the bulletin board in the back hall.

Our children are out of school for the
summer. Hunger does not take a vacation.
Let’s challenge each other to fill a bag with
food. Sidney’s Safe Foundation continues
to help hungry children in our community
all summer long. SSF is asking for
nonperishable, individually packaged,
easy to eat food such as: Little Debbies,
fruit bars, granola bars, pop tarts,
microwave popcorn, pop top canned foods
like ravioli, beanie weenies or spaghetti.
Collection bins are in fellowship hall and
the back entrance.
Letter from your Pastor:
First Christian Family,
There is something amazing about camp that
is unlike anything else that the church does.
Once or twice a year, young people gather
together from all over the region and form
a “church”. By “church”, I mean a community
of believers assembled for a common purpose.
The remarkable thing about it is the ease in
which they gather, break down walls and form
a bond that we adult do not ever seem to be
able to create; no matter how long we sit next
to each other in the pew. Maybe, it is the nature
of youth. That is the usual response when I ask .
There is little doubt that as we age and gain
experience; trust is certainly more difficult.
Maybe, it is the fact that all are strangers and
this is no one’s “home turf”. I have heard that
one too. Going somewhere new, certainly takes
away our sense of entitlement. In my many
years of ministry and camp, I have heard a
number of theories. Maybe, we should just
chalk it up to a “God thing” like one of our
campers stated last night. Whatever the
explanation, it is a miracle and a privilege to
behold. Most of all however, it is transformative
to all. The young people grow in their faith and
experiences; and the counselors get a healthy
dose of envy. Envy in that, this is what we are
all looking for from church really: a place where
we can experience God and experience acceptance
for who we are. Even if it is simply for a moment.
o from the cabins of Camp Chandler: Peace and
joy and remember to “Keep Calm and Camp on”.
In Christian Love, Jim
The Disciple Visitor
