comfort to all of the family.
At present we have a few people in the Red Deer

peace and joy.

Vacation Bible School July 6-10 (9:30 – 11:30 am)
Take the Plunge! Make a splash with Jesus! Grab your sandals, your beach towels, and your sunscreen! Come help
lead young people on a life-changing waterpark adventure! That is the theme for this year’s Vacation Bible School! We
hope and pray many of you WILL take the plunge and help us host VBS for children of our community. Last year 193
children enrolled in our VBS with daily attendance averaging about 150 children. So… we really will need many
volunteers to make this an exciting, fun and safe week for all the children God sends our way! VBS is geared for children
aged 4 – entering grade 6.
Please prayerfully consider in which area you could help:
1. Classroom teachers You teach the lesson (about 30 – 45 minutes) Other volunteers lead crafts, games and other
activities which you assist with, but are not responsible for.
2. Classroom helpers (students entering Grade 7 & higher)
3. Early Morning Activities ( 2 people/morning)
4. Snack preparation ( 2 people/morning)
5. Nursery (to care for young children of teachers and other VBS staff) 2 people/morning
6. Registration
7. Crafts, Games and /or activities (If you have an activity you would like to lead – please talk to us!)
8. Sound/power point
9. Drama and/or puppet play for the assemblies
To volunteer, or if you have questions or need more information, please call Michelle Driedger (309- 8855) or Connie
Sypkes (340 – 8373) We look forward to hearing from you!!!
Soup and Bun Lunch Sunday April 26 the Youth will be hosting this lunch and they invite everyone to stay for lunch
and fellowship. This is a fundraiser for the upcoming YC trip; donations for lunch will be gratefully accepted. YC is a
youth convention held every year in Edmonton; it’s an opportunity for our Youth to worship, hear speakers and be
encouraged in their faith. This year 10 of our Youth and 2 chaperones will be attending. Thank you for your continued
support of our Youth!
“Safe Church Policy” News: Council has decided that in order to move forward with a Safe Church Policy, criminal
record checks will be required from all volunteers 18 years and over who are involved in any children’s ministry of First
CRC Red Deer. The goal is to have every VBS volunteer have 100% compliance for this July. The compliance goal for
volunteers in JamTime, Cadets, Gems and Nursery Staff, is September 2015. If you are involved in any of the above
mentioned ministries please come to the Kiosk and pick up a Volunteer Application Form that will exempt you from the
app fee. There is generally a three - six week waiting period depending on the time of year. When you receive your crim
check you will keep the original but we will request a copy for our records.
If you require more information or have concerns please contact any member of the First Safe Church Policy Committee
(Josh Friend, Tyler Westera, Lena Drok, Jeanette Schalk, Sharon Stange or Jane Sanguin)
MUSIC NOTES
Michael Saward wrote "Baptized in Water" in London on May 29,1981, a few days after the twenty-fifth anniversary of
his ordination to the ministry. The text was first published in Hymns for Today s Church (1982), a hymnal on which
Saward worked as text editor.
This song explains the New Testament theology on baptism in a rather compact way. The first line in each stanza
alludes to John 3:5, Ephesians 1:13, and 1 Peter 3:21. The rest of each stanza explains the process symbolized by
baptism: being cleansed by Christ's blood for salvation and godly living (st. 1); dying and being buried with Christ and
rising again, free and forgiven (st. 2); and gaining the privilege of becoming God's children through Christ (st. 3). Each
stanza also finishes with a note of praise to God. The text is powerful precisely because it is biblical.
Save the Date! May 3, Sunday evening, 7:00 pm, is the Chancel Choir's Most Amazing Spring Concert. The choir is
partnering with His Time Ensemble, from Koinonia Christian School, directed by Annette Bradley, for an evening of
great choral music.
