9:30AM: We are taught in our culture to look out for number 1, have it our way,
be all we can be. Over and over advertisers tell us to seek our personal happiness
and fulfillment. In order to reach our culture, many Christians have tried to sell
Jesus as the one who can make your dreams come true or give you your best life
now. But in Matthew 16:21-28, Jesus calls us to a new kind of life. A life focused
not on ourselves and our fulfillment. He goes so far as to tell us that we need to lose
our current life if we are to ever find the true life he offers. This true life requires
submission, suffering, and ultimately the death of our old selves so the new can
live.

CONGREGATIONAL CARE NEED: If you have a pastoral care need or
concern we encourage you to contact your elder (assigned by last name):
Steve Rutledge (A-D)
Roger Beute (E-J)
Rob Melville (K-N)
Pattie Grooters (O-Sc)
Rhonda Kempema (Se-U)
Adam Eriks (V-Z)
Often, we come to church each week and put on our best face. We talk about
plans for the weekend and the kids and grandkids, but some of us also carry
worries about finances or maintaining homes. It is not always easy to tell who
needs an encouraging helping hand. If you know of someone in our church
family, or if you personally need some help, please contact our Chair of
Deacons, Brandon Deiter at 647-7106. Scripture encourages all of us to carry
each others burdens (Galatians 6:2). You would bless us by letting us walk
with you during this time.
!
WEEKLY PRAYER GROUPS meets on Sunday at 9:00AM in the

PRAY FOR: Kraig Kooiker who was hospitalized with pancreatitis this
week. Bob Boeskool and Tammey Geenen as they continue to recover
from recent surgeries. Hannah Kuria’s as she prepares for heart surgery
which is scheduled for October 15 in Texas. !
I WOULD LIKE to thank my Zion family for all of the cards, meals, and
other acts of kindness shown following my recent surgery. I am especially
thankful for your prayers and felt the power of them. Recovery is slow but
is going well. The doctor was able to perform both phases of the surgery at
once so no further surgery will be required. Praise God! Tammey Geenen !
THE YAH GROUP will meet for breakfast at 9:00AM on Thursday,
October 16 at Russ’ in Grandville. All those “young at heart” are invited to
attend! There is a sign-up sheet on the bulletin board by the church office. !
