We know love by this, that he laid down his life for us — and we ought to lay down our lives
for one another. 17How does God's love abide in anyone who has the world's goods and sees a
brother or sister in need and yet refuses help?

Little children, let us love, not in word or speech, but in truth and action. 19And by this we will
know that we are from the truth and will reassure our hearts before him 20whenever our hearts
condemn us; for God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything. 21Beloved, if our hearts

I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. 12The hired hand,
who is not the shepherd and does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep
and runs away — and the wolf snatches them and scatters them. 13The hired hand runs away because a hired hand does not care for the sheep. 14I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my
own know me, 15just as the Father knows me and I know the Father. And I lay down my life for
the sheep. 16I have other sheep that do not belong to this fold. I must bring them also, and they
will listen to my voice. So there will be one flock, one shepherd. 17For this reason the Father

SACRAMENT OF HOLY BAPTISM

During the hymn the candidate for baptism and parents and sponsors gather with the minister at
the font. The pastor address the parents and sponsors:
In baptism our gracious heavenly Father frees us from sin and death by joining us to the death
and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. We are born children of a fallen humanity; by water
and the Holy Spirit we are reborn children of God and made members of the church, the body of
Christ. Living with Christ and in the communion of saints, we grow in faith, love, and obedience
to the will of God.
Sponsors present the candidate: We present Anthony Sean Hutchings for the Sacrament of
Holy Baptism.
The pastor addresses the parents and sponsors:
Called by the Holy Spirit, trusting in the grace and love of God, do you desire to have Anthony
Sean Hutchings baptized into Christ?
Response: I do.

As you bring Anthony to receive the gift of baptism, you are entrusted with responsibilities:
to live with him among God's faithful people,
bring him to the word of God and the holy supper,
teach him the Lord's Prayer, the Creed, and the Ten Commandments,

and nurture him in faith and prayer,
so that Anthony in may learn to trust God,

THANKSGIVING AT THE FONT
The Lord be with you. And also with you.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give our thanks and praise.
We give you thanks, O God, for in the beginning your Spirit moved over the waters and by your
Word you created the world, calling forth life in which you took delight. Through the waters of
the flood you delivered Noah and his family, and through the sea you led your people Israel from
slavery into freedom. In the river Jordan your Son was baptized by John and anointed with the
Holy Spirit. By the baptism of Jesus' death and resurrection you set us free from the power of sin
and death and raise us up to live in you.
Pour out your Holy Spirit, the power of your living Word, that this child may be washed in the
waters of baptism and given new life. To you be given honor and praise through Jesus Christ our
Lord, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, now and forever. Amen.

The pastor continues: Let us pray.
We give you thanks, O God, that through water and the Holy Spirit you give your daughters and
sons new birth, cleanse them from sin, and raise them to eternal life.
Sustain Anthony with the gift of your Holy Spirit: the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the
spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord, the spirit of joy in
your presence, both now and forever. Amen.
The pastor marks the sign of the cross on the forehead of the baptized. As the sign of the
cross is made, the pastor says:
Anthony, child of God, you have been sealed by the Holy Spirit and marked with the cross of
Christ forever. Amen.

A lighted candle is given to the sponsors as a representative of the congregation says:
Jesus said, I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will have the light of life.
The pastor and the baptismal group face the assembly. The assembly joins in welcoming the
newly baptized.

Confident that the resurrection of Christ has defeated sin and death, we offer our prayers for
the church, the world, and all people in need.
For the leaders of the church: bishops, pastors, lay professionals; for those who teach the gospel in our seminaries, colleges, and universities; that salvation be preached to all in word and
deed, let us pray. Have mercy, O God.

For the beauty of creation, for those who care for the land and all creatures, and for those who
find recreation in natural resources, that all see God's goodness revealed there, let us pray.
Have mercy, O God.
For the rulers of nations, local and national leaders, and those who provide counsel to them, that
they be guided by the command to love one another, let us pray. Have mercy, O God.
For the sick (especially), the imprisoned, those living with HIV/AIDS, and those who feel themselves living without hope, that they know the comfort of the Lord surrounding them, let us pray.
Have mercy, O God.
For families and friends, for those absent from worship, and for those celebrating significant
events in their lives, that the Holy Spirit guide all God's people in their work and their journeys,

In thanksgiving for those who have died and by whose lives we have been nourished, (especially
the families of Linda Lemieux and Ruth Ohlsson) that we be bold in believing God's promise to
be with us always, let us pray. Have mercy, O God.
Awaken us to the promise of new and renewed life that accompanies our Lord’s resurrection.
Stir up hope in all who suffer with malaria, and renew the zeal of those who research cures and
treatments, that through their lives and work the world might behold the promise of Christ’s
resurrection for today. You promise to come to us, but we fail to seek your presence. Transform
us by your love to seek you and serve you in the world, especially in those areas ravaged by malaria. By your Spirit of truth, guide doctors and researchers to fi nd a cure for malaria, and grant
to the leaders of the world a will to implement means to eradicate this disease, let us pray.
Have mercy, O God.
Holy God, by the death and resurrection of your Son, you have granted new life, abundant renewal, and salvation. Hear our prayers for the sake of the one who has set us free, Jesus Christ
our Lord.

Sacrament of Holy Baptism
Today, Anthony Sean Hutchings, infant son of Holly Ann Hathaway & Richard A. Hutchings will
join the church of Jesus Christ through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism.
We ask God’s richest blessings be upon Anthony and his godparents,
Jamie Lee Paul & Christopher DeFelice.
Malaria is a preventable treatable disease spread through
the bite of an infected mosquito The disease claims the
life of a child every 60 seconds. Malaria was virtually
eliminated from the United States in 1951, but it remains a
major health concern in more than 100 countries worldwide. To most of us in the United states, mosquitos are
nothing more than a nuisance. But many countries in Africa just one bite from an infected mosquito could transmit
malaria and lead to death. A bed net treated with longlasting insecticide, coupled with training and education on
how it is used, helps ensure that families are protected
from this life-threatening disease as they sleep.
It takes only $250.00 to supply mosquito nets for an entire village. Please help us reach that
goal and save one village at a time. Look for the mosquito net outside of the chapel and donate
as you are able.
