Companions in Christ, 2015-2016 REGISTRATION Name Address E-mail address Phone Yes, count me in to be part of Companions in Christ beginning September 9, 2015. About Companions Life changing moments, we all have them. Falling in love, getting married, having children have always been on the top of my list. They have all changed me in some way. I act different, I think different, I feel different. They have helped me to grow. My spiritual life was almost nothing. There was the “Hi God” or “Thank you God” but no real conversation. Participating in Companions has been a major life changing moment in my spiritual life. The material is challenging, the leaders encouraging, and the group becomes family. My spiritual life is growing, I’m not there yet but that is OK. There is now conversation and that is important to me. I’ll use a Bible I already have. Child Care I request child care. Come be part of the journey 2015-2016 I don’t know what my life would be like if I hadn’t signed up for that first Companions class but I am glad I did. I would encourage anyone searching for spiritual growth to check it out. Matthew 11:28-30 What is Companions in Christ? Calendar 2015-2016 What do we do? Companions in Christ is a 28-week course discovering and practicing the spiritual disciplines of prayer, scripture, study, worship, ministry, and Christian conversation. Throughout the study Companions are exploring, experiencing, reflecting and growing in God’s grace. Preparing for the Journey: Sept. 9, 6:30-8:45 p.m. Parker J. Palmer, in his book The Courage To Teach, says that to teach “is to create a space in which the community of truth is practiced.” That’s what happens—community. Companions read and write (20-40 minutes daily) and on Wednesday evenings meet for 1½ hours for reflection, discussion and deeper exploration. Companions experience We enjoyed sharing our spiritual journey with fellow Companions in Christ. The group and facilitators were very positive and supportive as we explored what it means to be "sisters and brothers in Christ." It also provided a great opportunity for us to get to know other members of First Church! It was a rewarding experience for both of us. Receive study materials; prepare heart, mind and spirit for our journey to God. Embracing the Journey: The Way of Christ, Sept. 16-Oct. 14 A basic exploration of spiritual formation as a journey toward holiness and wholeness, individually and in community through the grace of God. Feeding on the Word: The Mind of Christ, Oct. 21-Nov. 18 An introduction to several ways of meditating on and praying with scripture. Paula and Jan Hartig Companions in Christ offers • a path to develop spiritually sustaining practices that guide your daily life; • space to renew and enrich your creative process; • freedom to respond, reflect, and rest in God's great love; • a journey that develops and nourishes your connection with others. What is Companions in Christ? Even if you’re on the right track you’ll get run over if you just sit there (Will Rogers).
