From Burlington to Beer
Tuesday 23rd June
Pick-up from Village Hall at 9.30 a.m.
Return at 3.30 p.m.
Our first venue is Chiswick House & Gardens located adjacent to the A4 Great West Road.
Chiswick House was designed by Lord Burlington, who was inspired by the architecture of
ancient Rome and 16th Century Italy. Completed in 1792 it is regarded as one of the finest
remaining examples of neo-Palladian architecture in London.
We will arrive at Chiswick House in time for coffee before viewing the sumptuous
interiors and the varied collection of beautiful and interesting items in the several rooms
of the House.
Then take time to stroll through the hidden pathways in the magnificent gardens, which
occupy just over 65 acres, mainly created by Lord Burlington and the landscape designer
William Kent, it is one of the earliest examples of the English landscape garden.
We leave Chiswick House at 12.30 p.m. for the short drive to Fuller’s Griffin Brewery but
first stop is The Mawson Arms situated on the brewery site where we are booked for
lunch. Plenty of choice from the menu plus an array of specials which change every week.
Our expert guide will meet us in the pub at 2.00 p.m. to begin our tour which will be a
unique opportunity to see behind the scenes of a famous working brewery and provide a
fascinating glimpse into British beer making and its history and heritage. The tour will last
about one and a half hours and is a non-tasting tour.
Please note no open-toe shoes are permitted in the brewery and long flowing clothing
should also be avoided. The tour will include several flights of stairs and few places to sit
down so not recommended for those with mobility issues.
The total cost of the trip (excluding lunch) is £20.00
All bookings must be made in advance at the FISH Office and accompanied by full
payment by cash or cheque (made payable to FISH Volunteer Centre) by:
Monday 8th June
Please note: This trip requires a minimum of 10 people and if this number is not achieved
by the closing date of 8th June then all monies received will be refunded in full.
