Youth Information January-May 2015 Recreation Our safe, youth-friendly programs are designed to encourage healthy lifestyle choices. With a variety of activities to choose from, we offer classes to help ease kids into recreational activities. Choose activities from karate, basketball, fitness center orientations, swimming classes, open swim, open bowling and gymnastics classes. Aquatics Youth Swimming Classes: Learn-to-Swim classes 5 week, 30 minute sessions begin Feb. 9. Summer swim lesson schedule will be available in late March. Open Swim: All children under age 8 and non-swimmers must be accompanied by an adult in the water. Open swim schedule: Mon / Wed / Fri 9-11 am shallow pool only Saturday 8-10:30 am shallow pool only Sundays (January 4 – March 15) 2 – 3 p.m. 3 lanes available for lap swim Spring Break open swim is March 16-20, 1:00-3:00 p.m. Wellness Center Youth Swimming 918-977-6519 Lifeguard Certification Jan.24-25: Provides entry-level participants the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until EMS personnel take over. Prerequisites: • Minimum age: 15 yrs. • Swim 300 yards continuously • Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs. • Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds. Starting in the water, swim 20 yards, surface dive to a depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object, return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point, exit the water without using a ladder or steps. Certification Upon successful completion of the Lifeguarding course, participants receive an American Red Cross certificate for Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED or Shallow Water lifeguarding (up to 5 ft.)/First Aid/CPR/AED. Karate: Instruction is by a certified black belt from the Zen-Do Kai International Martial Arts Association. The course is based on ”Americanized" Shotokan Karate (Japanese - Hard Style). Major areas of instruction are: self-defense, basics (kicks, punches, and blocks), Katas/forms, and traditional weapons. Cost is $10 per month per child (age 6-12) for the kid’s classes, and open to all levels. Youth Open Gym: The Adams Building Gymnasium is open for kids anytime other than restricted employee times & scheduled activities. Basketballs, soccer balls and volleyballs provided. Youth Fitness Equipment Orientation Class: If you have a 13 or 14 year old who would like to use the Fitness Center, enroll them in a fitness equipment orientation class on Tuesday evening at 6:00 p.m. or Friday at 3:00 p.m. Participants should be dressed to exercise and will be required to perform exercises safely at the conclusion of the class. This is FREE. This is a one-time class and is REQUIRED for 13 & 14 year olds to use the Fitness Center. Call 918-977-5894. Encourage your child to be part of the Splash Club Swim Team, and the Gymnastics Team. Splash Club: Splash Club, is a progressive, competitive swimming team affiliated with USA Swimming sponsored by Phillips 66. The team is open to all area youth. The club offers year-round training and competition for swimmers ranging in age from eight and under through high school and older. The experience levels also vary from novice to elite. Level 2 Meet of Champions will be held Jan.16-18. Gymnastics: Phillips 66 Gymnastics Club offers recreational and team programs, with an array of classes which caters to boys and girls ages one through high school. The Phillips 66 gymnastics facility is located on the corner of Highway 123 and Adams Blvd. Gymnastics: Tag Team 1-4 (Tulsa Area Gymnasts) The Phillips 66 Gymnastics Club is a member of the “Tulsa Area Gymnasts” which is called TAG. The TAG organization offers a low-keyed format for gymnasts to be introduced to competitive gymnastics. This program is for young girls who want to experience competition in a challenging and fun atmosphere. Gymnasts practice 2 to 3 times a week. The routines involve basic gymnastics skills which novice gymnasts enjoy learning. The Phillips 66 TAG Team only competes in a few competitions in Bartlesville and surrounding areas. Meets are very positive and every child receives awards at the end of each meet. USA Gymnastics Team Levels Phillips 66 Gymnastics Team has a great tradition of competitive gymnastics that was started in 1966 when our Company hosted the national gymnastics championship in Bartlesville. Since then, the club has produced many state, regional and national champions in the USA Gymnastic program. The Phillips 66 Gymnastics team presently has gymnasts competing in levels 3-10 and travel all around Oklahoma and the U.S. The coaching staff are all safety certified by the USA Gymnastics Federation. Splash Club Programs 918-977-5463 Gymnastic Programs 918-977-6769 Special Events Throughout the year we offer special events for youth and families to participate in. A few events include Parent’s Night Out at the Gymnastic Center, March Madness in the gymnasium, Kids night Out in the gymnasium and Eggstravaganza at the Aquatic Center; it’s guaranteed to be a good time for the whole family. Gymnastics Center Parent’s Night on Feb 3-4, April 1-2 and May 13-14 is an opportunity for parents to come out on the floor and take pictures of the students during their regularly scheduled class time. Each student will showcase their favorite skill and receive an award. Summer Early Enrollments will start in May. Summer Classes will start June 1. Enrollment Registration starts in May. Be sure to enroll early and get the class you want. Gym is air conditioned so come in from the heat and join the fun! Gymnastics Center, Bowling and Aquatic Center include a staff member to help direct your party. Let us host your next birthday or any occasion party. Pool Parties Pool rental is available to Wellness Center members on Friday evenings 6:30-8:00 and Sunday afternoons (January 5 – March 9) from 3-4:30. Fee includes lifeguards, pool time and pool toys are available. Refreshments are allowed. Fee is $75 for 35 swimmers. Bowling Parties The Bowling Center is also a great place to have a party for any occasion. Parties may be scheduled anytime there are lanes available. Bumper rails are available for small children, as well as a party room for no extra charge. Cost to rent the bowling lanes is $15 per hour per lane plus bowling shoe rental fee of $1 each. You must be a Wellness Center member to book a party. Gymnastics Party Playground Phillips 66 Gymnastics offers great birthday parties for all ages! The parties are in our high-tech playground where kids can be kids! We even supply the instructor and coordinate your party! Cost is $120 for 10 kids for an hour and a half of fun and games.
