The Chancellor’s Student Service Award
An award recognizing student civic engagement
AWARD INFORMATION
Submission Deadline – Thursday, February 26, 2015
The Florida College System (FCS) recognizes student organizations for outstanding efforts to increase civic
engagement through campus-wide student involvement, education and awareness initiatives. In order to
recognize these civic engagement initiatives within the FCS, the Division of Florida Colleges (division) began
a video contest in 2014 and created the Chancellor’s Student Service Award. Miami Dade College Kendall
Campus’ Omicron Tau was named as the winner of the inaugural award during the 2014 All-Florida
Academic Team Awards Ceremony.
The division is now accepting video to be considered for the 2015 Chancellor’s Student Service Award, which
will be announced at the All-Florida Academic Team Awards Ceremony in Tallahassee on April 9, 2015. Phi
Theta Kappa (PTK) chapters are encouraged to submit short video highlighting civic involvement in their
community. Submissions will be judged by K-12 classes as part of their studies on civic engagement. The
winning chapter will receive a monetary award up to $500 as well as the statewide recognition.
ELIGIBILITY
Each PTK chapter may submit a student-produced video that does not exceed one minute in length
featuring their involvement in civic action during the 2014-15 school year. The video should capture student
commitment to civic and community engagement and may include discussions, interviews, service projects
and/or other engagement activities either on campus or in the local community.
Videos submitted should highlight their PTK chapter’s civic engagement and will be judged based upon these
criteria:
Civic engagement activity highlighted in video (60%)
• Impact on community
• Ability for civic engagement to be replicated
• Student participation level
Video quality (40%)
• Technical features
• Video content and creativity
